Hey All.

I am thinking of starting a Space Wolf army because not only are the models great but they're strong and I'd like a change from the massacre of guardsmen I usually get. So with a new army in mind I was thinking about tactics. I thought for starters the battle force would supply me with numbers and then i would add in a couple of additions, such as a Dreadnought and a Predator. This would form the army, a rather small force but thats what I would prefer.

So tactics... To start with I would leave my Grey Hunters pack in the back lines giving cover fire as the other units move up. I would give them a plasma gun for those tougher targets. The Blood claws would just run at full pelt towards the closest enemy being careful to stay behind cover, I don't want them getting minced before they reach their target. I would support the Blood Claws possibly by sending a Dreadnought with them so that an assuault cannon and flamer can soften the them up. the scouts would infiltrate in cover aiming for weaker units as they go, all either armed with bolters or snipers. finally the Predator would be my anti-tank.... tank. It would just sit at the very back of the field blasting my opponents armour. And thats pretty much it, the battle force does come with a drop pod so maybe i will stick the Blood Claws in that.

But I'm not a Space Marine player and i would like to know what you would do?

Thanks,

Lacky.

Welcome to Dakka Dakka
Hopefully some wolf players will show up to answer you, but the best places are the 40k Tactics section and then the army list section when you build up a list, they'll definitely help you.

I don't play wolves, but I play normal Space Marines. Usually a Assault Cannon and Heavy Flamer Dread makes a great support for your close ranged troops as they advance, if they have to be on foot. Usually when you drop in a unit by itself in a pod it will get killed pretty fast or at least be targeted heaps, so I'd put something tough in it. But it depends on what you're going to be versing. If it's foot slogging Orks, IG or others like that, dropping the Dread in range near some of their units will do a bit of damage as well as being the distraction you need to rush across to close in with them.

How is it they live in such harmony - the billions of stars - when most men can barely go a minute without declaring war in their minds about someone they know.

As a son of Russ the tactics are easy put your grey hunters in rhinos or landraiders
Put your blood claws in a crusader or a redeemer get a devastator box and make some long fangs
Shoot the enemy till they get close or almost wiped out then charge them with everything but your long fangs
