Free shipping is great. I'm sure no one can argue against the GW site extending its free shipping for "just one more month" every month since around March of last year. I'm just wondering if by now we can count on free shipping being indefinate, or if we will have to keep it in the back of our minds that it might go away at some point.

Alas, poor Yorick.

I've taken advantage of it many times already since they started Free Shipping back in the spring of last year. Any time my order is over $15 now I have it sent right to my home rather than the store, which is most convenient. It's apparently working out well for GW and their customers.

Once the new nid fad dies down it will go back to paying for shipping as normal.

The only time i order from the GW is if Warstore doesnt have it like squigs and such but i usually try to trade but sometimes that doesnt work either so i just have to bite my lip and place an order.

Free shipping is great is GW finds it makes people buy from them rather than another source. I live in a city where one can't get GW products and you have to travel out of province and pay a ferry toll. If I needed just one thing in a jiffy, I'd consider GW's mail order. If I wanted lots of stuff or could not get a deal on shipping, again I'd consider it.

They are trying to be competitive with discounters not by seeking to shut out the stockists, but offering a deal on shipping. I think that's fair.

I find for orders under $23 it's cheaper to order direct from GW rather than Neal. For orders above that the 20% discount offsets the shipping charge.

Nid battleforce from GW is $105 shipped free. Under Neal it is $84 + $7 Priority (good size box) so works out to be $14 less.

2 jars of paint is $7 from GW shipped free. From Neal they would be around $11. So if I just need a jar or 2 of paint or want to order a copy of WD I'll get it from GW.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

I generally use it for any limited release or Direct Only items that I want.

Here's a good example of an item on which to take advantage of GW's free shipping. The Fortress of Redemption model is back in stock from GW US at this link.

I used the GW site to Direct Order a specific Ogre I wanted for a Daemon Prince. Used it to order a Large Oval base, and then went ahead and ordered Death Leaper since I wanted one, the FLGS would have had to special order it, and it bumped me up into the free shipping range. Just this week I went to order another Large Oval base. Decided to go ahead and order an extra one, and then tacked on a bottle of super glue to hit the free shipping price range since mine is getting close to running out.

I'd say their scheme of getting you to order more than just what ever particular small item is working, at least with me.

Who needs GW to get free shipping? Doesn't anyone here honestly still order from GW direct?

If it's something the FLGS can't get in stock and is over $15?

Sure will.

Direct Only and pre-orders. Especially the pre-orders. Maelstrom is nice, but it takes forever to get stuff from them in a timely fashion.

What if your FLGS can't get it in themselves, but you could buy it from one of the many online discounters, would you still buy from GW then?

As I use the WarStore as my online discounter of choice. I'd take advantage of the GW offer merely for Direct Only items, or items for $15-23 where Neal's shipping costs eats the discount.

If I don't see it on Neal's inventory--it gets bought direct from the manufacturer.

If my FLGS can't get it in themselves, it gets bought from Neal. If it's something like hobby supplies or things like that--it gets bought from Squadron Mail Order.

But mostly, I try to restrict myself to my FLGS--with purchases from Squadron every other month(mainly Tamiya's Fine Surface Primer in gray. OMFG is that stuff amazing.)

If it's Direct Only or a splash release I really want that might be difficult to get from independent sellers then I definitely use GW online ordering.

In addition to using The War Store for more routine items I must say that eBay has become my new friend for obtaining some of the more expensive items that don't have to be GW Direct Ordered. I got two boxes of Raveners tonight for $31 per box and a box of Genestealers for $18.50, no shipping or tax on any of it. That comes to approximately 35% off the combined list price of those items and that's not taking into account the savings on shipping or tax.
