I posted some pics in the regular Dakka Paint and Modeling forum, but i am gonna move this over to blogs and show my step by step.
first pic is my starting assembled "Pedro" (if anyone has a good re-name feel free to post suggestions).

I used the head off of the Chaos Terminator Lord trophy rack, i clipped off the wing, did a small re-sculpt on helmet and glued it in a pose that hides most of my shoddy work lol. I love the scared up beat up helmet

Next step was some green stuff on the filed off areas where crimson fists emblems used to be. Also i searched for a plastic banner to no avail so I used a bunch of green stuff on the banner, filed off Kantor on the banner pole. chopped off the fist... and then latter added a brazzer with the holy fire of the emperor! here are some more pics.

Here he is undercoated with a mix of chaos black and black ink, notice the added brazzer on top of the banner pole, every banner needs something cool on the top lol

Next I painted on a layer of Regal Blue to the armor. Then a layer of Enchanted Blue. I dry brushed boltgun metal onto the storm bolter/ammo, and back pack. His helmet, and adornments are going to be white since he's a vet of the first company. I layered on Codex Grey, to start the process to white. heres a pic.

I think the green stuff on the flag could have used a bit more smoothing out, but i like the helmet and fire. Those 2 things really add character to the model as a captain of the first company.

look forward to hitting him with a battlecannon

that green stuff is such a pain to smooth out lol, once its painted i think the rough spots will look more battle worn. and i am hoping it takes at least two battlecannon shots next time lol.

Too early to tell painting wise, but I agree the helmet choice was just right

A tip for your future green stuff use, have a little pot of warm water next to you. If you keep your fingers wet and the tool wet (stainless steel so it won't rust), then you'll find it is easy to smooth green stuff.

Hope he lives longer in your next battle

yeah i use the water trick, i just don't actually have a proper sculpting tool, i use paint brush handles and an exacto knife handle (minus the blade)

Update, more pics too. So this first pic, is me picking out more areas that i decided i wanted to eventually be white. I gave purity scrolls and seals, anything that would be leather, a layer of scorched brown. Laurels got dark angels green. The parts i am going to eventually have be gold, got a layer of tin bitz.

side view

This next picture, i've added scab red, and red gore to the ends of the "honor ropes". red gore to start layering in the eyes (am tempted to leave damaged eye dark, to keep it damaged ( ). I dry brushed several layers of dark flesh onto his front leathers, added grave yard earth to imperial blessings and purity seals, also got some red onto the purity seals, got a layer of fortress grey onto the codex grey, for the white areas, also managed to get that ultramarines blue onto his armor to tone down that enchanted blue.

Here we go update on "Pedro Kantor" for ultramarines chapter.
I've been trying to tie him into my third company even though I've been painting him up as a captain from the 1st company, the hanging combat shield and the tassel ends of his armor adornments i've painted them red. I am actually fairly happy with the way the white turned out, its been a frustrating thing for me.. this white armor... ick. gotten some highlights on the green laurels. I've got the first layer of white down of Ultramarine "U's", red on "dorns arrow", purity seals, and skulls on powerfist been layered up to bleached bone. The shoulder adornments got some more gold highlights. silver studs on front leathers painted on, have to go back and do some touch ups there.

I have decided to leave the eye on the busted side of the helmet darker than the other, to show that there is still damage to the eye.
Also here are the front and backside of the banners, i will be showing more WIP on these specifically, as i want to attempt a more detailed banner than i have done in the past.

and remember click a photo to vote on it!!
Vote for Pedro!! (couldn't resist, )

So no pics in this update, though I have taken some new ones, just not on the computer (yet). I have decided to keep the name "Pedro" only i used its English counterpart "Peter" so He is Captain Peter of the Ultramarines First Company, seconded to Ultramarines Third.

Looks cool, though I would try to find the Latin counterpart to "Pedro" as the Roman theme is part of the Ultramarines... or you know, you could name him Napoleon. :p

Do yourself a favor, hit up a michaels or a hobby lobby and spend 5 bucks on a set of color shapers (can't remember if they are silicone or rubber specifically)

You're doing good, but I think an exacto knife and paintbrushes are holding you back. the color shapers will improve your sculpt-fu.

Well after looking up translations, the Latin name for Pedro/Peter is Peter lol. I will look into the color shapers, thanks for the tip! I had a GREAT sculpting tool, that was MADE by one of my old art teachers... and i have no clue where it ended up

Hey man, i think the conversion is really coming along well, but if i may be so bold you really need to thin your paints out. All the work you did seems drowned out by the paint streaks. Its happened to me before too lol.

one of the great things about the camera my wife bought me for our wedding, is that it can take these great photos of my minis, the down side is, it picks out EVERY little imperfection on a figure..... which is sad, because when you physically look at the figure you see very few brush strokes, only in the white really. But yes i am working on thinning and actively coming to terms with the fact that i may need to apply several coats of one color to get that color to come out right lol.

thank you, i am only so-so on the banner front, I tried three or four different things, and nothing really came out right, cept the "u" and the numeral 1 for first company..... the script was really just a cop-out =/
oh well, i think it works though, and he looks good next to the other figures in my army.
