Some of you may have previously seen my Blackhawk Down IG army: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/271973.page . I wanted to expand the army by adding a pair of chimeras, but didn't want to break theme. I originally considered the APCs from the relief column, but really wanted to keep the overall ranger theme. I found this tutorial by swampy on The Waaagh http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/?showtopic=38912 about converting an Ork Trukk to a HMMWV by way of a plasticard template. I liked the idea, but the original was far too Orky and was also the wrong HMMWV variant for the army. With some small tweaks to the template and a liberal dose of IG parts, you have the final result. In order to paint the crew, the top is not currently glued in place and there will be a crossbar in the middle of the windshield. Dimensionally, the model is slightly longer and taller than a Chimera, but also slightly narrower. All of the dimensional changes are within 1/2" of the Chimera and being taller and longer (giving larger side arcs) aren't particular advantages. A side note on the pics, solid black is pretty rough to see detail on so I upped the brightness.

This looks good to me,
Just out of interest, Are you simply gonna call this a Chimera for rules purposes? and if so, will it still be considered a "Tank" and therefore "tracked"?
I'm just interested because i did something similar.
Otherwise, Great work man, i look forward to seeing it painted.

I really liked your Blackhawk Down army - it was really well executed. I'm interested to see where you go with this. A couple notes I'd make about it:
- Maybe it's just the lack of detail at this point, but the scale of it looks a little too big. The HB and Multilaser look kinda puny compared to the size of the rest of the vehicle. It looks like you could seat four comfortably across the the inside of the vehicle. I know humvee's are big, but I don't think they're that big.
- I alluded to it above, but it seems to me like it needs more detailing. Right now, with the plasticard, it just looks like flat slabs - it looks very toy-like. I know that IG aren't as rivet happy as Orks are, but a liberal supply of small rivets would go a long way. Also, consider adding another layer of plasticard for armor panels. Take a look at some IG armor and see how the surface of the vehicles are textured with plates, rivets, etc.
- And you've already got a good start on gubbins, but I think it just needs more. MOAR!
Knowing what you did with the Blackhawk Down army, though, I'm confident you'll do something cool with this. I look forward to seeing more of it.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack |

@ Death By Monkeys- Don't really have an option for size. If I'm going to call it a Chimera for a tournament setting, I need to at least be close to the vehicle. With that in mind, it has to be bigger scale-wise than a normal HMMWV as it's taking the place of an armored vehicle that carries 12. As for the Multilaser and HB looking puny, well they are. Not exactly massive weapons on any model, so it seems appropriate that they look puny.
As far as stowage, I think it has a good mix now, but I might try to add some more. Paint also adds alot of flavor to any model.
@ Tedcase- yup, it will be a Chimera with everything that entails.

Nice Model.
I would add a bit of detail to the plasticard panels. Scribe a few lines and add a couple of hatches. That will give more detail to bring out in the paint job.
In 40K, "Tank" is just a rule which allows a vehicle to do a Tank Shock attack. Skimmers are "Tank". No reason why a wheeled vehicle can't be a "Tank".
I'm doing all wheeled for my desert Planetary Defence Force and they will be "Tank".

Whats scales are you using? Im interested in using vehicles like this in my IG army as Im not too fond of the GW IG vehicle stuff and will be playing my guard with friends rather than tourney's, so not too worried about having to follow canon.

I use 1/35th scale kits. I find the 1/48th scale too small. There is a much bigger selection in 1/35 as well.
Check article about kits for IG here...
