(what did you think I was talking about?)

Victrix are pleased to announce that set vx0009 Napoleon's Old Guard Grenadiers is ready for pre-order. We expect them to start shipping by 14th February.

Grenadiers box cover

This 28mm hard-plastic set contains 60 figures and fast-play rules; also included are eight regimental flags, representing flags of the 1811 and 1812 issue.

Positions included in the box are:

* 4 officers
* 4 standardbearers
* 4 drummers
* 16 firing line, firing, priming and loading
* 16 march attack with arms fully attached
* 16 either march attack or advancing at porte/charge

Grenadiers marching

Of course, any arm can be used on any figure, giving you the option to make many more positions than listed.

Also included are four porte fannion arms to make sergeants for your regiments. The 14 individual heads in the set are full of character, reflecting the grizzled nature of Napoleon's 'Grognards'.

The set retails at £19.95 GBP.

Grenadier conversions

Another aspect of this set's versatility is that you can use heads from set VX0005 French Napoleonic Infantry 1807-1812 on the bodies of the grenadiers, and create line grenadiers and voltigeurs in greatcoats, or regiments of legere in greatcoats. Also, by using the Old Guard heads on the Grenadier bodies in set VX0005, you can make Old Guard Grenadiers in campaign dress.

Grenadiers column flag

For those who pre-order this set direct from Victrix, from now until February 28th, will receive a free flag sheet of the 1815 Imperial Guard flag, issued to the 1st Regiment of Grenadiers and 1st Regiment of Chasseurs for the Waterloo campaign.

Yeah you'll have to do some work to get special and heavy weapons on them for an IG force but WOW it sure would rock. They almost make me want to do Napoleonics.

Almost.

Firstly, WOW that's a lot of wonderful models for very cheap. I like very much.

Also, I agree with Luna. It'd be nice to get a shot of one next to a guardsman.

Those are sick. I love them. I want to do War of 1812 more than regular Napoleonics though, so I doubt I'll be picking up any French minis any time soon.

Definitely a conversion project for IG. Might cost a little more in the long run but HOT DAMN will they be cheaper than buying any other great coat on the market.

You could have just made the Sci-Fi ones look like this and rocked on.

Riddle me this: what has four sides, moves twelve inches, and moved fourteen?

I had the same idea about greatcoats. I have one box of Victrix british inbound, so that I can try to adapt IG weapons. However, Victrix and Perry miniatures are better proportioned than GW guardsmen. I have seen comparison pics in the internet; lasguns are very bulky compared to napoleonics muskets. Forget about using guardsmen arms with Victrix bodies; they will look like chaos mutations. I will try to modify lasguns, perhaps kidnap my wife's Dremel and shave off excess plastic.

They are nice models, though the hats throw me a bit.

For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. if they are like the others in that range, they are a bit thinner than GWs IG, but would work. I hadn't thought about using them for IG...

Compared to marines and orks they look right to me-smaller and weaker.

Between the Perry's and Vitrix we are looking good for plastic 25mm Napoleonics.
I have a few pictures on my blog of them;

Don’t forge world make their imperial guardsmen men in a similar scale? Shorter and thinner?

A box of 60 death korps of krieg guardsmen including command, that’s what I’d like to see.

Cool figs, but as the pictures show, a bit slight for converting to Guardsmen. Very nicely done though, and I agree with those that think it's great to seem so many companies churning out good quaity 28mm. The more 28mm historical stuff that sells, the more likely we are to see companies dabble in 28mm Sci-Fi and fantasy plastic stuff.

Converting with GW parts would be either very hard or out of the question, but building an entire army out of these has definite potential. Grenade launchers actually existed in Napoleonic times, and you could do fair facsimiles of meltaguns and plasmaguns, I think. Heavy weapons would look best on artillery carriages, probably kept outside line infantry squads. I'd go for something like Ironclad Miniatures for the tanks, I figure the steam carriages would project the right roundly 19th century vibe, though of course from the opposite end of said century.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Yea, Forge World stuff is a good bit thinner, even ones that use Cadian parts for conversion. Especially Elysians are tiny little buggers. I wouldn't mix these up with Cadians or Catachans in the same force (though perhaps Kasrkin as storm troopers) but alone with PI type heads they would be great.
I also second the notion of using small gun carriges or large tripods (like ACW gatling guns) to make standing heavy weapons teams. Definitely a tempting idea all around. I might just make that Girl Genius gaslight army anyway...

Or with the proper techie helmetry, this could be made into an advanced force. Heavy weapons on small mobile platforms, that sort of thing-ala Vostroyans.

I'd proffer FW Elysian heavy weapons might be well sized in this instance.
