Hi,

I am in the process of making a CCS of my warhammering friends at school and one of them is really tall. Now, I would, ideally, like to make his model taller than the others to tell him apart. One suggestion I had was to add a Green Stuff ring on top of the legs and below the torso. However, I am shockingly bad at Green Stuffing. Does anyone have any alternate ideas?

Many thanks,

The OC-D

P.S. No I do not want to parody him and make him really short.

You could put spacers made of Plasticard under the feet and the part where the torso and legs meet.

Or, you could just put him on a mound.

Mount him on a rock, or mound of greenstuff; he'll seem bigger, without needing extensive work.

Hmm, I'd rather make the model taller than adding a mound but I'll consider the plasticard approach, if I can find some.

Anything else?

I might suggest using an already-tall model as a base, surely there's an existing IG that's taller then the rest of them.

Give him taller boots. Or use a 3rd party model that looks good. This is a nice idea if he is meant to be your commander or whatever. Because he will be unique.

If you make the scenery around him smaller, that may make the model seem bigger. For example, if you normally put 1mm gravel on your models bases, try downsizing. I'm not really sure if that will do something, but it may help. Also, the pose is very important. If he is half crouching, then try using legs that are standing upright. The models around him will seem smaller if they are in a crouching/battle ready pose. Hope that helps!

Sand off the belts of all the other minis, thus making others smaller and closer to true scale.

You could always use a pair of scout legs and shave down the waist a bit. Then surround his waist ammo pouches and grenades to cover the shaved down part.

If you want it comically large (as in, unrealistic), then this might do:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1060067&prodId=prod1110255

unfortunately its a 54mm scale miniature, so its significantly larger than a 40k guardsman. Best I could find, even though its not great.

I assume you are using cadian models? Cause if you are doing catachans, you can just use Harker.

Thanks Pipboy, I think I'll use some Scout legs.

Yes I am using Cadians because its all standard.

ssREV, I think Inquisitor scale is a bit large.

Many thanks,

I would suggest adding height by building up the base, I tried putting spacers between the torso and hip/legs piece, it makes your model seem disproportionate. If you do add a spacer, you need to lengthen the arms and legs, sort of like truescaleing a marine, it's nearly impossible on a guardsman, it just makes him look skinny.

OK, thanks for that. Sounds ruddy hard so I might give it a miss. I have a couple of spare bodies so I might experiment.

Thanks for the in sight.

The problem with making taller figures is always the warping of proportions, particularly the arms as gil gerard mentioned above - the 40K universe can forgive just about anything but no-one wants an army of T-Rex syndrome guardsman... The trick s not to go too far - the average height of a human male is between 5',7" and 5',9" (67-69 Inches) so say your 5,8 and your friends 6 foot your models only going to need to be about 1/16th of an inch taller to be correct...

Some possible ideas:

The aforementioned plasticard spacers work, particularly on the soles of the feet as long as they're thin spacers - anything over about 1.0mm and he'll look like he's wearing platform boots... The waist can work but it's usually best to pile on the stowage (grenades, canteen etc.) to prevent him looking a little skinny.

Another possibility is to extend the neck ever so slightly by putting a little putty in the head cavity of the torso again it's easy to go too far but it can be done...

Do all three and it may be enough - but I'd still go with finding a taller guardsman if you can - sadly the guard have got taller through the ages (My RT guardsman look like weeds) but logically there must be some height variation in the figures - perhaps the rest of your command squad could be made of the older 2nd ed metal Cadians and the "taller" figure one of the new plastics...

Anyway just my two cents...

Maybe this world is another planets hell...

Hmm, if I can get my sticky paws on some plasticard I'll try both approaches. I'm 6 Foot and my friend must be 6' 4" but the principles the same. Luckily my friend's quite gangly so he shouldn't look too stupid being taller.

I know what you mean about IG getting bigger. I bought an old plastic Cadian to fill a gap in a squad and he was small in comparison I couldn't use him.

The best way to do this is make the boots look like boots give him a toe and heel lift then a extension in the hips that should work
