I didn't see any mention of this, or DoW 2 Chaos Rising in awhile. Trailer shows that SM now get lightening claws, Chaos shows off Greater Nurgle Daemon.

*Please move to correct forum of this is the wrong area... This video was released today on gamespot*

I was not that much interested in DoW, but now that there is a Great Unclean One, I just may have to jump on the bandwagon.

ewwwww great unclean one

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

The script they gave the narrator was pretty lame. The visuals were hot.

Very nice, just wish they were introducing several races in each expansion, instead of just one.

It would be real nice if they made Chaos Space Marines and Daemons separate playable races and just released them the same. I'm still not sure how they are working the plot in there though. They should Khorne and Nurgle stuff but not the other 2.

I'm mostly looking forward to the new space hulk levels that were in the last video they showed with the gene stealers.

That voice actor was almost Boreale-bad. The visuals have me excited as ever for the game though. I'm replaying DoW2 at the moment and I'm looking forward to using my guys again in the expansion.

So I have never played DoW 2. I really like 1 but was a bit scared off by the requirement to sign in to an online service every time I wanted to play, even solo missions.

Is it that big of a deal and is the game so much better/different than 1?

A lot of people will say Dawn of War 2 sucks because they just wanted it to be Dawn of War 1 with a fresh coat of paint. Ignore these people, they are idiots.

The game is on a much smaller scale overall, and heavier on the micromanagement. It's really important to use cover, as being out of cover can get you blown away really quickly. In an average online skirmish, you'll have somewhere around half a dozen units running around, and even then they're only 4-10 men each, depending who you're playing as.

The single player campaign is pretty awesome. You play as the Marines (this is a turnoff for some people; your mileage may vary) and go around a Risk-style map completing missions in whatever order you want. In missions, you pick up wargear, kind of like Diablo or a similar action RPG. After the battle, your troops level up, you can equip them with new stuff, and you can equip them best for the next mission. For example, you might want to give your tactical squad a flamer for the next mission, where they'll be fighting inside a Tyranid-infested jungle. Dawn of War II takes the single player campaign, raises the level cap to 30 instead of 20, and gives you a new map to fight over; adding Chaos to the gallery of races in-game.

You'll have to install both Steam and Games for Windows Live to get the game running. You can connect the GFWL account to your Xbox Live account, which is cool if you want to add achievements to your gamerscore (once again, if you're into that kind of thing) Steam, on the other hand, is a digital distribution service. At first I didn't like it, but I've come to absolutely love it. There are deals and sales going on all the time. For instance, over the holidays I bought the THQ complete pack for $50. This pack had 18 games in it; all released in the last 5 years or so.

You can get Dawn of War II for something around $20 on Steam right now, if I recall correctly. As someone who loved Dawn of War 1 and Company of Heroes, I strongly recommend it.

No, as in it varies from person to person...

If it's sarcasm sorry I missed it, I can't hear you too well over this internets.

But yeah DoW II is pretty cool, the only thing I disliked was how "easy" it is on normal. And Cyrus' squad... (A battle-brother has fallen! [for the fourth time in as many minutes] but I've only lost my scou- ... oh...)

I wasn't so keen on DoW1 after the second expansion, they tried to make the new armies play slightly differently, but a lack of balance broke it. I've rarely played or seen an online game where people get roflstomped in 5 minutes or less, games are often going one way then the next a few moments later, I much prefer it at least.

With the SP campaign, it is a bit, well... samey. Get through level, meet boss, kill boss, rinse and repeat next mission. The only respite is the defence missions which don't crop up often, but are a nice change. Apparantly, there'll be less of the same in the expansion, which has me rather excited, not to mention the habitual murder of heresy. If only they'd throw in Grey Knights.

I agree. I've said in other threads that getting annoyed at DoWII for not being like DoWI is like hating Zoo Tycoon because Doom is a better First Person Shooter.

They're different styles of game - DoWI is an RTS, DoWII is an RTT - so the comparisons are pointless.

To me Dow 2 has plenty of faults but the marine only focus.. just marines for campaign is too much. Last stand was a bit of free fun. So yes IMO in does suck and I have no reason to buy the expansion.
