Subject: shooting & wrecking vehicles and buildings then assaulting them

my friend last night shot a melta gun at a armour 14 building and miraculously destroyed it with a double roll of 6's. i had 2 oblits on top of the building which after it became wrecked he assaulted the oblits. because he shot at the building can he now not assault the oblits in the assault phase because of firing/assaulting two seperate entities. i hear from a few people that it IS possible for the reason that the building does not count as a unit.
in the same regard in the shooting phase i shot and wrecked his land raider therefore causing his terminators to disembark, within assault range. may i then proceed to assault his terminators even though i shot at the land raider initially? does the land raider (even if its a dedicated transport) count as a seperate unit? or are the terminators and their land raider considered one unit?
also just a quick question, do dedicated transports count as kill points in annailation games? victory points? does the land raider as a dedicated transport and their cargo of terminators have to be all destroyed to count as one victory point? or are they seperate victory points?
thanks, and sorry if i sound like a n00b, didnt have a chance to look at my rulebook as i left it at my friends house, and am very impatient to find out the answer to these questions. thanks all

Page 67. On an unrelated note, this is like, the 4th time this week this has been asked. Arrrgh!

Yes and each One gives up a Kill Point.

Yeah read the transport rules they clearly state you can assault the passengers of a transport if you blow it up with shooting. this applies to buildings which essentially are immobile transports.
Dedicated transports are seperate KPs. Rather annoyingly technically even the gun drones on a Tau vehicle count as another KP... Meaning a Tau FW squad in a Devilfish is worth 3 KPs!! A single Pirnaha is worth 2!

Occupied buildings follow the same rules as transport vehicles for taking damage. See page 79.
So yes, you can assault the unit that is forced out by the shooting attack. (as per the Transport rules on page 67)
may i then proceed to assault his terminators even though i shot at the land raider initially?
As above.

A transport vehicle and the unit it is carrying are two separate units.

Every destroyed unit counts as a kill point. So yes, that would include dedicated transports.
victory points? does the land raider as a dedicated transport and their cargo of terminators have to be all destroyed to count as one victory point? or are they seperate victory points?
Victory points are no longer a part of the normal rules, so that would depend entirely on the rules you decide to use.

If your asking about KILL points, yea, transports and their cargo are 2 different killpoints. So in your example, the LR is 1 KP and the termis are a second KP. VP's are no longer used in normal games, though some tourney organizers and old school gamers still use the rules at times (honestly they make for more interesting games overall)

Once again another reason that most people hate the KP system (I dont think I have ever heard anyone say they actually love it). It really hurts armies that dont wear power armor especially and have squads that die easy. I really miss the VP system, though not perfect was much better than KP all around.

Yeah the KP system is stupid and totaly imbalanced. I really don;t see why they changed it from VPs. Keep the other 2 missions as is but have Annihilation a purely VP units destroyed mission. How they can say blowing up 1 Piranha is twice as much a victory condition as killing Marneas Calgar, Logan Grimnar, The Swarmlord or the Nightbringer is just totally ludicrous.

^^ agreed. think of the new tyranids codex with their shiny new 'drop pods'. i was playing a game with a friend and in terms of kill points (which we were keeping track of) he dleep strike(d) everything he had in these puppies... so basically all i did was wiped those sorry sac's of goo off the table and claimed a quick victory in the end, basically ignoring the tougher units as it seemed there was absolutely no point at all to target them in such a game!
