So yesterday they closed schools before a single flake hit the ground, shut down work when it started but before anything stuck and I went home snikering.

But once the real snow started it was pretty impressive a foot or more between 4 and 11. Then we lost power (along with heat and hot water) at midnight and I really started to worry. Got power back at 10 this morning but cable is still out. Lucky the netbook uses an aircard.

Anyone else snowed in?

In Michigan we have had maybe a foot so far this winter. . .

Here in Alberta we never shut down schools/services for mere snow.

However, when it gets to -40 degres Celsius (approx. -50 farenheit) without wind chill, then stuff grinds to a halt.


My favorite snow day back when I was in school was when a group of enterprising students went out on a cold night and unplugged all of the school buses. None of them would start the next day, and we had the day off.

It's in the mid-30s (celcius) outside right now.

Agreeing with my fellow Richmonder, chaplaingrabthar. I think it might have finally stopped here, however. I'm just glad I don't have to work this weekend. Last weekend was kind of a drag in this mess.

Yea this winter has been a REALLY weird one for us. Usually we are known for our winters, but hell I think Texas has us beat this year

Well power, heat, hot water and intarwebs are back so I guess the SNOWPOCALYPSE is over.

And it looks like work is open tomorrow

It took me about four hours to dig out my driveway yesterday and it is only about 150 feet long! Also had to get on my roof and fix my satellite. The LBN got water in it and froze so no signal what so ever. Total amount of snow was 18". Needless to say i REALLY HATE SNOW!

I grew up in Alberta too. When it comes to nuclear winter that we got every year, we were as tough as nails. However the East coast gets that heavy damp gakky snow whereas we usually got the powdery dry stuff.

I HATE FETHING SNOW!!!!!!!! This crap needs to go up to Vancouver where they need it. Now o get to go to work and dig out 5 1/2 miles of sidewalk AGAIN with no snowblower since the stupid gak broke it on Saturday!

Y'know through this whole thing Popeye's Fried Chicken has been open every day. I kind of wish my own government considered it's people as vital as Popeye's Fried Chicken or as resourceful as their workers.

Or you could say that the government is a more humane employer than private sector, considering the safety of its employees ahead of the profit margin.

I think it got down to 45 here last night, Brrrr. It was so cold I had to get out a quilt for the kids bed and one for the misses. I actually wore my flannel pajama pants to bed!

It's snowing again...

Ran into a woman at Target filling her cart with air mattresses. I finally had to ask and learned she works for a hospital and they've got their staff sleeping over there. With over a 1000 staff they ran out of mattresses a long time ago. This was her 3rd Target that day.

Yeah, wife just texted me the snow had restarted. All my hard work getting the culdesac dug out is for naught : County isn't getting to side streets until friday evening from what they say.

my only hope is that Richmonders (SOD the bloody R-I-C!) don't panic again and decide to leave a yard between them and the next car so nobody can park on S Boulevard.

edit: Yes, Wife is in Silver Spring and i'm in RIC. Cold cold RIC.

Here in Wisconsin they called school early and maybe a 2 hour delay tomorrow... Sadly I have to shovel all this white stuff now.

Federal government closes for third straight day

Federal Eye is reporting that the federal government will be closed Wednesday, the third straight day. It will be the longest run of snow days for the region's federal workers since 1996.

You thought 45 degrees was cold? Where exactly do you live? Because we Minnesotans will go outside in jeans and t-shirts, no gloves or jackets, when the temp is in the low 30s to 20s...

Incidentally, we here in the great Minnesota have been getting about 6 inches to a foot of snow...I know my deck got at least a foot and a half (Because I had to spend an hour out there shoveling it earlier >.&gt This is one crazy winter we're having.

Oh the news gets even better....got 4 inches through the day.....4-6 more overnight....and a possible of 2-4 more through Thursday.....and then 2-4 more on Sunday......ummm possible of after all this of 36 inches sitting on the ground.....i know the east coast is sitting under this already but I am about dead from shoveling this crap. 5 1/2 of sidewalk is not fun. Granted we have 2 other guys helping me.
