I recently got a spray gun from GW and the ing thing does not work very well at all the paint, when it comes out, comes out in a short pathetic little burst and then stops working. The paint was mixed in the correct ratio and the can of propellant was nice and warm. has any one else experienced similar problems?

Yep, then I fiddled with the small piece of brass that turns (it's stiff the first time) near where you put the paint canister into the gun. It's a shut-off valve and it's probably partly closed. Hope that helps.

I hate to inform you, but you bought a huge gimmicked piece of crap. The took the most bottom end type of paint sprayer/'air brush' and stuck a flamer handle on it so they could charge an extra 30$. Theres non GW versions of the same thing for like 5-8$ out there, but they dont work much better.

So, the paint may not be mixed thin enough (despite what the directions might claim). try spraying some plain water through it- if that sprays the paint is still to thick and needs more thinning. Its not uncommon for hte paint, when it finally works in these things, to be so thin that its more like a wash or ink. This leads to poor results, and takes lots of layers. Which by coincedence also makes you waste paint and canned air-which of course you're supposed to go buy more of to try to get the sprayer to work.

Then, after it makes you so mad you trash it- you then have to go buy stuff to strip the crappy paint layers ff- and then even more paint to fix all the problems. If you cant get it to work with one can of air, and a jar of paint- it probly aint gonna go- so dont keep throwing money at it.

A few people have gotten very modest results with these, but most stories are like yours or worse- best of luck.

Mine works fine, as long as you only put foundation paint or washes in it> I've never had any of the problems you describe. Although I agree, it is very overpriced.

GW have an airgun? Man, thats scary. I wouldn't buy it.

Here in Australia, GW stuff is extremely expensive. Seems to work out about 40-50% more then overseas sellers (us smart Aussies buy our stuff from you peeps).

As far as quality go's GW arnt all that good. Always, always look around for the products in other stores.

I don't even buy GW paints anymore unless I really need too. Desperation does things to a man!!

Yes very similar problems to the OP and after reading Mistress' post feel slightly better that Im not alone.
Have had nothing but problems with the spray gun tbh, from cleaning it, to poor consistency, to the propellant freezing up within 2 minutes of use, to poor coverage.
Serious waste of dosh Im afraid :(

well... the flamer/paint sprayer uses propane as a propellant... i wonder if you can really turn it into a flamer?

Regarding CO2 sprayguns, please remember to thin your paints by a LOT. Thinner than you usually do when you paint by brush (you do thin your paints, right?). You may want to blast some water or acrylic thinner through the gun before doing paints to make sure it's ready to use.

I'd pay $10 to anyone to dump flammable liquid into their sprayer and than try to use it as a flamethrower.

Then I'd sit back, call 911 and watch the pyrotechnics display.

Yeah. If you have access to a compressor with a 20+ gallon tank and able to put up 1.5+ cfm of air you are better off going to a home repair store and buying a spray gun meant for cars. $50 at Home Depot gets a Husky brand paint sprayer that is 1,000X's better than the GW spray gun for about the same price (and Husky is not exactly top end).

Or get yourself a nice large spray tip airbrush (.5mm or above), a compressor with 2gal tank (about $80 new) and get much better results (and with practice able to go down to a pencil thin line).

I have a Badger 105 Patriot with a .6mm needle. Can go from a 3" wide pattern down to a pencil lead line. For our scale 3" wide pattern is plenty wide, even for tanks and skimmers.

i bought one of those.
i feel kind of embarrased now.

but yes the short bursts are cause because the shut off nozzle at the top needs a fiddle.
i bought one, and it worked great with foundation paints, but when trying to use it with normal paints, it was a horrible experience and a waste of $6 paints (australian).

i would never put a wash in my spray gun, it would literally blast most of it to waste.

personally i prefer to actually paint the basecoat now if im not using a foundation paint, but it works well and tanks and vehicles.

i agree that it is VERY overpriced, and at my local GW they encourage to buy 2 canned air bottles to decrease cool up periods while spraying. if i were in that situation again i wouldn't of wasted my money and i would of bought more models (online). GW is just so overpriced.

I'm not sure how many there are around the country, but here in California we have a place called Harbor Freight. They have a crappy little dual action siphon feed airbrush for $15 that is worlds better than that GW toy.

If you want to get into airbrushing even just for the sake of base coating, I recommend a proper airbrush and compressor setup. If you are only base coating then a cheaper airbrush will do just fine as long as you can take it apart to clean it.

If you want a real airbrush, I just got a Paasche Talon set with 3 different needle sizes and it is simply amazing!!!

I would also avoid cheap compressors unless they have an air tank. Cheap ones tend to be rather jumpy and pulsate rather than give you consistent flow. If you have an air tank then the only thing that matters is a good regulator.

GW should stick to models and leave the big boys to the serious stuff.

Eh, I personally haven't had a problem with the GW spray gun, did my entire Nurgle Daemon army in greens and browns with it, did 2 Monoliths with Boltgun Metal, and it's worked fine. Yeah , it's a bit cheap, yeah you have to switch air cans every 2 minutes, but does it do the job? Yeah, it does.

Yeah I own one myself and I like it, helps so much when it comes to tanks and infantry base coats. Yeah its cheap, but I'm not using it for much and it gets the job done, quite well in my opinion actually.

I have to say, GW does a wonderful job on their tools. I have a "sculpting tool". It cost a bundle, and toothpicks are more useful.
