So I've been wanting to do a Space Marine army since i got into 40k, but none of them have ever appealed to me. Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Space Wolves colors do nothing for me. My best friend plays Black Templars (We'll come back to this.) and Dark Angels, are awesome, but not my style....which left me with creating my own chapter, or taking one of the lesser known ones... Well the problem with that is now I was spoiled for choice... I mean investing in an army is not something I can do lightly and I need to feel a connection with what I'm doing otherwise I get bored. So after years of doing nothing and playing 3 different armies, I've finally decided on a chapter....
The White Templars
I went with this Chapter for two reasons. The first being that my colse friend and usual opponent plays BT... Now The white templars are either a second founding chapter of the IMP Fists, or a third founding chapter of the BT. It would be really fluffy to have two Templar armies on the table in doubles tournies. The second reason, is that I love the BT Models, Everything about BT Models is awesome....however I cannot play them as my friend already does... So White Templars it is, I intend to use them as regular Vanilla Marines, for variety.
I bought my first box of tac marines today...Pictures of the assembled mini's tomorrow. Hopefully having some dedicated readers will fan the flames so I can complete this army A.S.A.P

Hey All
Just wanted to thank you guys for your intrest, and let you know that I have not been idle. Sadly I decided to start a new army while on Night shifts at work, which boils down to no matter how much sleep I get I feel like a train hit me. However I finished building the first five tac marines, and will complete the second squad of five by tomorrow. Pics of the completed models will be posted tomorrow. Once thats out of the way I intend to get a test marine up sometime before the weekend.
After that it will be a mix of painting marines, and building two Multi-Melta/Heavy Flamer Speeders, a Dakka Pred, and a Las Plas Razorback. I'm really excited, and so far the models I've assembled look much more regal, and beefier then plane jane vanilla tacticals, which is awesome as the nilla marine models don't really come off as threatening...when your g/f, who knows absolutely nothing about 40k says they look like smurfs, something has to be off.
Anyway thanks for the intrest ni my blog. Pics and Updates to follow.

Sounds like a great idea. The templar iconography is pretty rad.
I myself have a Steel Templars army in the works. I can't wait to see how the White Templars look!

Hello All
The test mini is done, now I'd just like to preface his viewing by admiting that this is really my first attempt at actually producing models that look half decent, My Eldar army was never fully painted, and my 1500 pts list tau army was painted in under 2 weeks. I did not even know what a mold line looked like prior to undertaking this project. Thats is why I missed some mold lines on this model, he was intended to be a learnign expierience, and due to missing those mold lines, I have gon over all other models with a fine tooth comb. Also My hands shake like a jackhammer when I paint, I have no ability to control them so believe me when I say that this guy took me somewhere around 5 hours to do.
The process:
-for the white I used skull white primer as a base
-I then airbrushed skull white paint with my airgun over the primer (This was done as the GW primer seems a bit chalky to me)
-Once I had a smooth white base, I did a heavy wash of Badab Black. (The model looked like a Black Templar)
-I then drybrushed the model after it dried with skull white. In total to get the white color you see there it took six go over's with the drybrush. (This might have been one to many, next model will only do five.)
For the black I used Charadon granite, and washed it twice with Badab black.
For the Silver I used Boltgun followed by a badab black wash.
For the Purity Seals I used bleached bone, and went over it with Devlun Mud. Charadon granite for the text.
over all I am happy with the way he turned out, but then again as I said I am a pretty novice painter. He was no small feat for me, even though it was an enjoyable feat... Any tips or coments are welcome. Now here are the pictures:

I would touch up around the eyes. Not all of that should be red. It might take a couple coats of white without a foundation paint handy to get rid of the red coloring.

He didn't turn out half bad imo, but I would paint some of the details (skull on backpack, marks on the gun, but not the aquila on his chest) with some other coulour then black just to get some more colour on him, thin layer of tin bitz followd by a thin layer of burnished gold usually looks good for me

Yay, painted model! He looks nice, might be cool with some shading though.
Also, as for the hands shaking thing, do you rest your wrists on anything when you paint?
If not, try to have them on the edge of the table for precision work, this really cuts down on the shaking, at least for me.

Looking good there Operator. Like Xanthos says either try resting your wrist on the table edge or rest your painting hand on your holding hand. Also placing the model to something like a bottle cap helps for control I find.
You said your primer was chalky, is that to the eye or to the touch? It may be that your priming from too far away or in the wrong conditions.
As for the stage by stage have you considered coming up from a grey base coat to the white, it would negate the need to respray the model a second time and also give you a more solid colour. Hope this helps, looking forward to those preds mate.

You should wash that thing with badab black and then retouch it.

Having done Cerulean Templars, I know this is a fun journey. That said I would probably avoid the predominantly White Templars, the way I paint white would drive me insane.
You say it took you 6 coats to get that white, when I spray white primer it usually only takes two coats. I would suggest also selecting to go with either a warm white or a cool white to give the model more depth. Good luck.

Hello All
Quick Responses to my devoted readers:
Limbo- Im still struggling to figure out how to add a bit more color to the model, I'm not found of gold as it's a bit to bright, Im thinking about adding grey to the basecoat so that the raised edges will be more white....I don't mind the predominant white on him anymore. but it would be nice to add a small bit of color, or some more depth to the model.
Xanthos- The Hand resting on the Table works, not the most comfortable sitting position but it gets results.
Lennysmash- I Like our idea of adding grey into the mix. Will work out a way to do it to help add more depth to the models, as it appears to have onl a white on white highlight currently.
Munch Munch- I will be going over the model with wash today, see it that changes his appearence.
Psychosis- it was not 6 coats, it was one coat of primer, one coat thru an airbrush, and then 4 drybrushed layers. Anywy it needs to be fixed...to much white.
Now for the Update. I have assembled one Landspeeder (partially crew will be glued in after painting, i like getting details on crew done properly before the model is glued)
and a Pred. There are some small cosmetic fixes that need to be done, but the models are built. Expect a big update with tons of pics, I have some time now as I'm off for four days... Please enjoy the following

Looking good, is the predator completely glued though. I only ask because the top hull needs to be teased in a bit more to make it flush, as does the the front armour. Also given the every increasing price of the kits you may find it useful to look into magnetizing your weapon options on your tanks. If you do it correctly you need not buy things like the rhino kits as you will be able to reassemble your predators or whirlwinds back to serve as rhino troop transports. Again as mentioned earlier there are also a few mould lines on the pred that need to be filed.
Sorry if it all sounds a bit critical, its only intended to help and keep the updates coming.
