Now I know in every other codex. The option to make at least one of your HQ be able to act like jump infantry is always an options. Be it wings or jump pack. Its always an options. But not for the orks?

I could see a big mek being more then happy to strap on a rokkit pack and fly threw the skys or a stormboy to gain enuff power to lead the tribe. But as it is. This isnt an option. The only reason I can think that they didnt allow this was the rokkitpack rule. That if you role a ! one a d6 someone dies, so if you were to move your hq with the pack by himself and that roll of a 1 happens he bits the dust. But even then it isnt like gw to take away something that is very "risk vs reward"

Anyone elses thoughts as to why this isnt an option for our ork HQs?

Game wise, there no real reason why it isn't possible. Fluff wise, warbosses have enough scene to not strap a rokkit to his butt. Even the Meks that builds them wouldn't use it, since there's a chance the thing will explode or turn the wearer into a dirt plow. They'd rather give it to the highly trained Stormboyz and laugh when they get reduced to a red smear.

Possible, yes. A good idea for every army to have the exact same options? Not so much

In older fluff, Orks had a massive dislike (not a fear, Orks aren't a-feared of nuthin'!) of flying. Stormboyz were younger Orks who hadn't yet developed this 'dislike' and were more regimented and disciplined than older boyz. And presumably more expendable.

Yes but every other army does have the same options. just like most every other armys HQ can be on bikes, termi armor ext ext.

I guess if there is some fluff in the older stuff of them not being a fan of flying then that would make sense.

I cant really see an ork not doing something cause its not safe or not the best idea. Since when were orks so safty aware?

I dunno, if an Autarch can use a Warp Spider Jump Gen (and have a chance to get Warp'd in certain circumstances) I would think an Ork HQ should be able to use a Rokkit thingy.

I would argue that it's a matter of the Eldar understanding that the whole is greater than the individual parts. Yes, the Generator might cause the Autarch to get eaten by the warp, but the risk is far outweighed by the potential to strike a blow to the enemy army. In the Autarch's mind, it's far better to give up his own life and have a major victory than to fail his mission but remain living. An Ork is far more concerned about staying alive to cause more mayhem, and strapping a rokkit to your arse has a fair chance of resulting in going out as a red smear, rather than in a blaze of glory.

I was actually thinking about this just the other day. Im enamoured with the idea of a hulking greenskin with an equally massive rokkitpack strapped to his back, launching himself into the skies and plowing into the enemy ranks with a massive WAAAGH! on his lips.

Not to mention the conversion possibilities. He'd need to like, strap 3-5 regular stormboy rokkitpacks to his back (and probably somemore to his feet) to get himself off the ground.

But similar to Space Wolves, footslogging is how Gork and Mork intended it, and no self-respectin ork would go mukkin' about with that gubbinz

Well truly fluff wise a warboss would do anything that he would want to do, the one boss that leads the Vulcha boys is on a jump pack. I can't see a reason why the warbosses can't other then they are too big to actually use one, since the warboss is so massive would be the only reason I would see of them having a problem, but hey atleast they get the better alternative and can just use a bike instead, which is just as fast and has better results then a rokkit on your back!

The "boss" that leads the Vulcha Boyz isn't a Warboss. he's a character/Nob upgrade for the unit.

Fluff-wise, ork stormboyz are the youths of the ork army, the ones that crave discipline and rules. I don't see the warboss fitting into that mould.

If you're just talking game mechanics, they could stand to beef up the HQ options in several ways. Jump packs, Ok. Why not a kommando boss with infiltrate or ambush ability, like Snikrot? Why doesn't a big mek or speed freek warboss have some kind of vehicle option?

Well fluff wise orkz have a game where they try to eat a squig comparing mouth size is the biggest, where the ork will usually have his head chomped off. Orkz are a randomly funny race to where I can see a warboss somewhere in the galaxy that would really enjoy having a bomb taped to his back and flying around.

I mean orkz have the method of thinking it works and it does method to them.

Plus you have to factor in that not every single warboss in the universe is as intelligent as per say Ghrazgull.

If a stormboy dies on a 1, then the boss pack should detonate on a 1 (because it would be so fraken huge), and do a S10 AP1 large blast. If da boss is goin' down, take as many as possible with him!! WAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!

Nah, it's cause they have too much dakka weighing them down.

His rokkit pack would probably shoot dakka to get him off the ground.
