I just did a quick colored drawing of an idea I have for a cadian helmet conversion. The blue is a visor, with a halo marine style targeting device over it. The gray is a respirator/ face mask. The orange stripe down the front of the helmet will stick up when its modeled onto an actual helmet. Sorry for the bad drawing, but once I get some critique from the dakka community, I'll draw an improved version. So basically, any opinions and ideas please post them, as I am not sure I'm sold on this concept yet.

I don't know about that targeter thing. It's sort of like wearing a monocle over a motorcycle helmet. Wouldn't it make more sense for it either be integrated into the visor, or placed directly against the eye (and thus out of sight)?

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Seems Pig Iron heads would be easier.

You might look at some of the valkyrie pilot heads and see if there is something there you can trade for.

Whatever you decide to go with, I think a head conversion would be a good idea. It adds a very noticeable difference to the models, and with all the regular Cadian armies I see running around I think that it would make an army stand out.

I was thinking about both of those ideas, but I really want these to be my own if you know what I mean, I'm thinking that i'll use brown stuff to sculpt on the visors and respirators, as it is easier to form into geometric shapes than green stuff.

Oh, and orkeosaurus, do you think it makes sense to have some models with the visors not on, presumably retracted into the orange part of the helmet? as i think that would be a good way to add variety. Also, anything that anyone dislikes? Other than the optic piece as I don't like it either.

If you plan on making these yourself, have you considered investing in a resin casting kit?

depending on how much said kit costs, im only making 2 squads, and ill try to do enough variety to make it fun

All I have to complain about is the the monacle thing. Also there's no imperial eagles on it.

I think you should integrate the target pipper by painting it on as if the visor was a screen and you could see it.

Nothing currently, got out of the hobby, maybe getting back in?

W00t. Actual peoples using my models as references! Do I win some kind of prize?

To the OP I would definately recommend checking out the Pig Iron range of heads. Either for the Visored Heavy Infantry ones I used, or alternatively the Closed Head ones. I think they are a bit closer to your original comcept and you could easily GS a monocle over the top of them.

Yes flinty do take a bow your guard are fantastic and highly inspirational, but I still feel opposed to pig iron heads, they just dont fit the look I'm going for, but they work amazingly well on yours. Besides if the sculpting doesnt work out i may take your advice after all.
