Are Brazil planning on using the oil to power some kind of mardi gras war machine and invade the USA or something?

sighs brazil is selling the oil to china and china alone the U.S gains nothing from this except that the main who holds a majority of the shares in the company that is drilling was a major campaign contributor to obama. Brazil itself has little to do with the whole enemies except that they are drilling this oil to sell purely to china. Where as the U.S or more Obama signed the loan to the company to drill.

But then China make all the goods that are sold in the USA, so they are not really your enemies.

And I am sure the terms of the loan will give the USA some nice profit on the interest etc.

It might also be conditional on the new oil fields being used to supply the USA with oil, perhaps at reduced rates.

Believe it or not a lot of products are not accepted anymore from China, and just because of textiles being produced elsewhere doesn't mean a nation is not our enemy. The US backs Taiwan(formosa for those of you) and as such we supply with arms and other stuff, as such china has made their point known very well about how they think of us. Also as per the "loan" the U.S has over a trillion in national deficiet atm and is in no position to hand out loans like that, but is only doing so at the behest of Obamas campaign contributor. Chances of us actually getting paid or really making any money from the deal are slim at best. China now owns the rights to all the oil that is drilled from that field no one else.

Questions:

1. This article is from AUGUST, any follow ups to this?

2. If the USA is contributing money towards an oil company...wouldn't it be safe to say we'd be getting some of that in return? Where do you base your claims about China being the only customer and were they based before or after such news?

As for the general topic of drilling oil - we should definitely preserve our sites for if and when the gak truly hits the fan like WW3. Thats one Cold War-era strategy that should remain imo since it deals with MAD and the possibility of a Mad Max Future.

Also as it stands right now we have pretty unsavory countries/regions to purchase oil from but at the end of the day I'd rather support the less "evil", rich, and powerful area - Brazil. Wouldn't hurt too much to strengthen our ties with an oil power in this resource hungry world.

Much rather we try and grab oil diplomatically than launch an Iraq 3.0

To be honest, I can only really comment on the article you linked to and am not really aware of/interested in Chinese/American politics.

Although as you seem to suggest, the extent of business involvement in American politics really does smell, especially when it "forces" the government to do things that kind of go against the needs of the nation as a whole, as you and the article suggest this loan does.

@Cane: follow up right now I am looking more into as this was presented at work(gov't office) by some coworkers and fast shot around.Being the way that gov't works I imagine the loan will finally complete within the next few months.

@Silver: Chinies/U.S relations have soured in the past few months due to Taiwan and the 7th U.S Fleet stationed between china and taiwan. Lots of how should we say near misses as well as the half a million soldiers that have been conducting landing drills that china deployed their almost 3 years ago.
