Here's my Subjugator of Slaanesh. I manufactured a bunch of these models previously but never had time to assemble and paint them. In addition I was having trouble getting the solid models of the armor plates to work out so I could get them printed. I finally got the models fixed and printed a week before an Apocalypse tournament at my FLGS. So I had a week to assemble and paint two of these bad boys. I did the same paint scheme on both except one has purple details and the other pink

It was a lot of late nights but they were ready, and a lot of fun to playat the tournament. The apocalypse doom siren was a squad killer extrodinair.

There are more pictures in my gallery showing him with and without paint and the armor plates.

I want to add more detailing to the model itself in the form of hoses running to the hydraulics. I also want to do some freehand work on the right side of the face to spruce the model up some. It looks too plain for a Slaanesh model, but I don't want to go too crazy. I have an image in my head of this thing hiding between buildings in some vast and grime covered hive world. It remains perfectly still until its pray comes close, then it bursts out to tear it to pieces. A kind of giant mechanical velociraptor.

I modeled it to look fast and agile, and I think I did well there. I didn't have much to go on as far as GW inspiration. The Epic model on the data sheet is ugly and there really isn't a lot of art work for the model. I hunted around on the web and looked at other peoples attempts and never really found anything I liked.

What do you think? Any suggestions for what I should free hand on the face? I was thinking some kind of pattern. Everything I think of seems kind of Meh.

(Keep in mind the surface of the plates are not smooth like on a plastic model. They're stereo lithographied parts. They kind of have the texture of sand cast iron, or unsanded wood. I liked the texture. It made me thin of these plates being sand cast in giant forges. Daemons smashing away the refractory to reveal the glowing metal underneath. )

Also I'm not happy with the power unit. ( The thing with the fins behind the head under the main Subjugator cannon. I wanted to paint it like its hot, but settled on looking like it was recently hot and cooled. I didn't like the way the reds and oranges looked in the fins. It overtook the model. Any tips on painting hot things?

Very nice. I like the way you didm't paint it bright glaring pink. Makes it look more 'stealthy'.

You know, it kind of looks Necron to me for some reason. But I very much like it. It is a beautifully made model. I don't know if there is anything you can do to make it "more" Slaneshi - I see you've already added the appropriate symbols - but what do I know? I play Orks, not Chaos!

I think it'll look better if it has some form of booster in the place of its current legs.

Did you do the machining on these yourself?

asmith - Yeah I machined these myself. I'm lucky enought to be partners in a machine shop so I can pretty much do what I want.

Zaxaria - I was tempted to go pink, (the exaxt opposite of the current scheme, with the grey where the pink is and the pink where the grey is ) but I just didn't have the nads to go there. I worked so hard to make these I was really indecisive about the paint scheme and decided to play it safe.

Lunahound - What do you mean booster? Like a rocket? Its a walker.

Heres the datasheet for those unfamiliar.

I guess I should have put the size comparison picture in the first post to establish scale

It looks great but it really doesn't fit with 40k. IDK what but, it just seems 'off'.

That's because you were brought up on the "new look" 40k. If you look at the old epic models they were all kind of wierd. The subjugator was no exception.

It's difficult to make a model that mimicks the more angular look of the warhould titan with bulbuos look of the subjugator. If anyone has a better Idea I'm open to sugestions. Part of my design choice was simply ease of manufacture. Its easier to make square edges, so I took my que from the defiler models. That model is basicly blocks. They just have a lot of hanging bits that have no apparent mechanical purpose.

This is the only art I can find for the subjugator. I don't even think this is official art work. again very bulbuos and organic. not current 40k looking.

Yes, but right now, it is the new 40k. But the mech looks like something bought then just used as a proxy and doesn't really look like what is in the picture. Not to sound mean or harsh! For suggestions, as more wires! I would also add some bitz to it. Right now, it doesn't say, "Hey, I am a warhammer 40k model." It is more along the lines of saying, " I am a cool mech." Like the cannon on the chin, that helps! Add more of those dragon heads, add more wiring!

I disagree. I think that subjugator looks perfect, and would fit perfectly standing next to an armorcast warhound, reaver or revenant.

I'm putting the Issue of whether the model fits the current Style of GW models aside. I can make a blocky head in the future to make it fit the current Imperial/chaos style If i decide its really necessary. As for now I'm going to stick with the catfish head as it is the feature that makes my model a cousin to the epic model that serves as the inspiration for this build.

I've done some design work today. I decided the turret was too plain so I designed up some armor plates for that.

I also came up with the color scheme I want to fill the internal areas of the armor with. Its kind of a plasma thing that I should be able to pull off with out much trouble

Things to do yet - in no particular order

1. Add hydraulic hoses to the arm pistons
2. Add power cables connecting the twin linked blast master to cockpit.
3. Design banner hanger- I want a plate under the arm bar I can hang a banner and some skulls on chains from.
4. Design a power plant plate for behind the legs to give it that dangerously exposed mechanical elements look that GW is so fond of.
5. Design a plate for the back of the tail - again probably with more mechanical elements (exposed hoses, cables and, electronics ). To lend visual justification to the lower rear armor.
6. finish paint.

The Subjugator looks great; nice new take on an old concept. I think a couple more 'frills' would make it more exciting--perhaps chains, corpses, 'impurity' seals, but you've mentioned this in your list so I shall wait for updates.

I wouldn't go too far, Slaanesh is meant to be sleek. I'm wondering if you should take the velociraptor motif further and add a claw or two on the 'feet'. They look a little small and plain right now. Or maybe make them cloven hooves?
