What is the best way for Space Wolves to deal with AV13 and 14? What about Monoliths (or is the best way to deal with a monolith to phase it out as quickly as you can?)

Is the Vindicator worth it for the S10?

For AV13-14, meltaguns are definitely the way to go. Space Wolves are one of the best melta spam armies around due to dual special weapons on Grey Hunters. After meltaguns your next best bet is probably getting into combat, grenades/massed attacks let you deal with most tanks and a good sprinkling of things like thunder hammers let you deal with Land Raiders etc. Against Monoliths most people go for phase out, but if you actually have to kill them then anything with S9 or 10 hitting it in combat is your best bet as at worst you will need 4+ to hit and you will usually have multiple CC attacks rather than a single shooting attack (e.g. TWC/Lord on Wolf with Thunder hammers, Dreads).

Vindicator depends on the rest of your army and whether you need it, it should be used as a heavy infantry killer (and is a good distraction unit from other things in your army in any case) so they are worth it if thats what your army is lacking. They shouldn't really be used as anti tank weapons unless they have nothing better to shoot (against Necrons they are definitely better off hitting the infantry).

Don't underestimate assault cannons. They have rending, can penetrate a land raider, and fire in volume.

Thunderwolf Cavalry with powerfists.

Wolf lord with a powerfist/Thunderhammer with a Thunder Wolf mount, in a squad of fenrisian wolves. 19-24" Str10 death attacks with a 10+ ablative wound shield.

High AV wont be hugging the back/side board egde as they dont have to. Rear-armour 10 can be dealt with by standard grey hunters no problem. Rear armour 14 would give even a couple of melta-bombs a hard time but more importantly, they will be out of range.

If you're going against several Monoliths you simply ignore it and murder everything else.

No, the Vindicator is not a good investment if all you're including it for is to go monolith hunting.

GH's with meltas are you best friend vs high AV.
You can keep the GH unit even inside a Rhino when its close enough.
The Monolith is a different story. I'd ignore it and go for the phase out.

Presently in my 1850 List:

7 melta guns (spread across 4 rhinos)
1 Multi-Melta (dread)
2 Assault Cannon (dread)
3 Dreadnought CCWs
15 Missile Launchers
1 Twin-Linked Lascannon

Enough? I think I should be able to force enemy AV 13+ to get close to at least one rhino or drop the MM dread within 12 "

I would be interested in seeing that list.

3 Dreds, 4 rhinos, 3 grey hunter squads with meltaguns and a wolfguard squad with 4+ combi-melta's (not technically meltaguns). 3 longfang squads with 5 missile launchers each and a razorback with a TL-lascannon. Or thats what I assume it would be, anyway.

Dont think space wolves can field proper special weapons in high densities.

@takeabow

Nice. I have the models for that. I will have to give it a spin in an 1850 game.

I really like Jaws and Lightning, so I would probably drop the melta gun for a flamer and some grey hunters to pick up chooser of the slain and a couple of other units.

Interesting list though.
