Hi all,

As a newbie to the world of crusading Black Templars, I've spent many hours with my eyes on the net and nose in the codex, and I've finally managed to come up with the following army. The idea is to have a powerful attack force and a credible objective defence force.

I would really appreciate some comments, and ideally, how this list can be expanded and reduced.

ATTACK FORCE

Reclusiarch: Bolt Pistol, Kraks - 98pts
Crusader Squad: 10 Initiates (meltagun, power weapon & bolt pistol) & 4 Neophytes - 220pts
Land Raider Crusader: smoke - 268pts

Emperor's Champion: Accept Any Challenge - 140pts
Assault Terminator Squad: 5 Assault Terminators (3 PoLC, 2 TH/SS, all furious charge) - 215pts
Land Raider Crusader: smoke - 268pts

Land Speeders: 2 Land Speeders (both multi-meltas) - 130pts

Predator Annihilator: lascannon sponsons, smoke, extra armour - 153pts

DEFENCE FORCE

Crusader Squad: 10 Initiates (meltagun, power weapon & bolt pistol) - 180pts
Rhino: smoke, pintle mounted storm bolter, extra armour) - 68pts

Vindicator: 2 Vindicators (1 with pintle mounted storm bolter) - 260pts

TOTAL: 2000pts

Comments? How can I reduce and increase this base?

Many thanks in advance.

Hey there,

You certainly seem to have a good grasp of the Templars for your first list. The Chappy and Champion with attendant a$$-kickers mounted in LRCs are a time-tested strategy, and can usually assault the hell out of just about anything.

I like this list a lot. The only thing you might consider is maybe another crusader squad in there somewhere as a contingency plan for objectives. Not sure where you'd drum up the points though, there's really nothing I'd definitely tell you to drop. Maybe one of your tanks, or the speeders, as you've got anti-tank very well in hand. I do love to see vindicators making an appearance, they make quite a hole in just about anything.

I'm not sure what a Vindicator is going to accomplish as a defensive unit. Vindicators are about as aggressive as it gets.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

I saw the title and opened it up ready to cry, and then saw that you didn't have blessed hull.

At 2,000 points my Dark Eldar have 17 Dark lances (36" lance), 20 blasters (12" lance), and 10 disintegrator cannons (STR7 AP2 blast).

Putting blessed hull on that land raider will pretty much ruin my day. Not putting it on there makes your list a cake-walk, because you've got a predator and 2 land speeders I need to deal with up front to protect my vehicles, and the rest is history.

Blessed hull! You're the only army that can do it. Abuse it!

Many thanks for the compliment and the advice, Mercurial. Yes, having just three infantry squads did feel a little uncomfortable (2 CS & 1 TA). A fourth would be able to soak up an additional wave. I'll certainly consider it, and perhaps, as you suggested, I will ditch the Land Speeder, but then I will lose the Deep Strike option and I do like the idea of Deep Striking those behind the enemy!

Thanks for this, Fetterkey. I really like the idea of having the Vindicators dug-in cover at the back, providing a killing zone en route to, and covering, my objective (which I usually put way out in the open to deny any cover saves for my opponent, if he's lucky enough to get near it). This could free up the defence CS to move up in the Rhino if things are going well, safe in the knowledge that my objectives are covered. Vindicators feel kind of vulnerable when moving: all it needs is a weapon destroyed and all I have is an expensive empty can of beans.

D'oh! You're absolutely right, Dashofpepper, darn those DE lances! I will have to add Blessed Hull, I think, but at 50pts (2 LRCs) it will mean losing a Land Speeder... and I wonder if just one Land Speeder will be enough. Any BT players out there: would you go for Blessed Hull everytime?

Many thanks all for your comments. Much appreciated.

Agreed, also why I focus all my guns on that tank at first sight of it!
