I'd like to get something to safely transport my necromunda gang and other assorted minis; probably looking at 40 figures max. Most would be on 30mm bases. Can dakka recommend any suitably sized cases, or am I looking at making my own?

As a note, I've already checked out battlefoam - the smallest case they offer is both bigger than I'd need and too expensive for my taste.

Take a look at the Chessex Cases on The Warstore. Although I personally have never seen one of the Large Figure Cases, a friend uses the small one to carry around her WIP painting stuff and it works very nicely. Not bad prices, either.

Heh, I use a standard GW case for My Ratskins, altho the bottom sheet is Van Saar. Then a second case for the Orlocks with it's bottom sheet for Delaques and hirelings. Your problem is that you don't have enough Necromunda stuff....................

I have a large figure chessex case, and it holds about 40 minis quite well.

Yup, i'll second the Chessex cases.

The small one fits 14 models.
Just right for a single Necromunda Gang/Mordheim Warband/Bloodbowl team/Malifaux Crew or your latest few painting projects, a few dice some counters/objective markers and your folded roster.
Costs around £10 which I find to be reasonable and it fits nicely into any rucksack/laptop bag/briefcase.

I'd consider buying multiples and clearly marking what is in which case.

I use a small chessex case for my PanO infinity force (including the cutter) and they survive fine. It's travelled with me on the plane to an interstate tourney fine.

Alright, looks like I'll pick myself up a large chessex case at some point. Thanks a lot guys, that's exactly what I was looking for.

so you can have some choice in the foam type

They are reasonably sturdy - although the 'hinge' (for want of a better word) will break at some point - I've seen a few that have, but I've had mine over 15 years and they are fine (but I haven't opened and closed them constantly for this time).

The foam tray will protect them from much damage, and two of the large cases protected the contents of a 1750pt eldar army of mine at a recent tourney in the hold of a coach (they were in my luggage).

The Battle Foam C4 bag has 2 inches of foam on one side mainly for small skrimish games and what not... Its also the card bag though so its got some wasted room if your only looking for the foam.

Actually, if you are not too worried about what is on the outside of your bag, you can still go the battlefoam route but not the standard bags. Look at the Flames of War Bag or the Hordes/Warmachine bag with custom foam inserts. They are small enough for your figure count.

I use a "Storage Clipboard" from Vaultz lined with eggcrate foam for transporting my Mordheim warbands.

They have the benefit of being useful during games as well - just clip your gang/warband roster to it and you can take notes as you play!

Here's an example...I see you are in the UK, but I am sure something similar is available.
