I'm brand new to WH, my friend Boss 'eadbreaka introduced me to it and I took an interest to the Tau (see my intro post), was just wondering what models are recommended to start off with.

Thanks.

Well, you can't really go wrong with the Battleforce. Maybe from there, a Battlesuit Commander and a Hammerhead. This is just my opinion though.

Hi there. Welcome to the forums and to Tau. This thread (which was started 2 days ago) will probably answer some of your upcoming questions, and if not just ask away

Cheers,

Thanks for the tip. Just looked them up, and they're somewhat costly...

After much reading and stuff I came to the conclusion that the best way to start was 2 battleboxes, 1 comander, and 2 blisters of pathfinders.
The boxes comes at a great price and no matter how your playstyle will go you will use the transport, crisis suits and eaither the kroots or firewarriors. Making the battle box a steal. Kroots seems to work best if you ad in some hounds with them, I solved this with a friend playing Fantasy chaos warriors, so he has like 60 hounds I can borrow when we are not playing fantasy. So if you decide you like kroots later a box of chaos hounds might be nice.

Expanding from this later will be easy, just get the big guns you dont have at the moment.

Never played 40k but this is the findings I made, if they are spot on I have no idea. But you will always be using more then 2/3 of what you buy here, and the battle boxes being so cheap makes em still worth it then.

Sorry to tell you, but if you want to play this game, be prepared to spend quite a bit of money. The Battle force is actually a "good" price for what you get. I would also recommend it. It gives you the necessities to play a small point game.

I recommend the battleforce set to get first, then some battle suits. Check ebay or other bits shops, you can at least take the cost down some.

If you want to save money and want a core force fast definitely invest in the battle force. Then incrementally save for each other unit your after. Theres many different Tau Strategies from static firing lines that support each other to rapid strike forces that can move anywhere they can get an advantage. Personally i enjoy my Krootox with a squad of kroot warriors holding a flank that has light cover. And using stealth suits to harass enemies whilst my fire warriors and path finders maneuver to target the enemy with a hammerhead and my commander hunting tanks.

Look at as many different setups as you can and you'll find something that suits your playstyle. Best of luck!

The Tau Battleforce is awesome. 2 is definitely recommended. You'll have 2 Devilfish, 6 stealthsuits, 2 crisis suits, 24 Firewarriors, and a buttload of Kroot.

The hidden gem people forget is that you also get a boatload of drones. Players may not like em, but they are "basically" free models.

My personal recommendations are to get 1 more crisis suit, crisis suit commander, and 2 broadsides.

The immediate ones, IMHO, are the crisis suit and commander.

Good luck.
