At a tournament yesterday, my friend was using his CSM, against Demons. His opponent was maybe...10? Give or take. He accidently knocked one of my friends models off the table, and stepped on it, breaking the hell out of it. Instead of saying "sorry", or something to that extent, he say "WHOA!! That guy is dead!!!".

Any of you guys have experiences like this?

People at my FLGS are really chill and respectful of your pieces. Most of the time they will ask before handling figures. A lot of them will just bend over and eyeball details of your minis instead of even touching them. I feel comfortable leaving my raiders lying around there because I know no punk kid is going to feth with them.

That said, I'm sure if we did have a douchebag who broke a piece, intentionally or not, he would be asked to leave the store (Or at the least be forced to compensate/reglue the mini)

I have had many models have parts fall off while being handled. It is usually because of poor mating surfaces, but I have also had models dropped. I, myself, have even had other people's models break in my hands, though never intentional, usually for the same reasons.

When this happens, I prefer to repair the model myself, and I usually prefer to have the other person repair their own model, with my apologies. I have never had something as unfortunate as a model actually being destroyed beyond a reasonable form of repair (bending a sword back straight, or just gluing something back on). But if it ever did happen, I would have to demand they replace my model. I would most likely also demand to keep the broken model, as price for the inconvenience of having to repaint a new model, and for the insult of having damaged it in the first place.

Would I get angry? Probably not. These things happen, especially with little kids running about.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

i have had this happen alot. but only one person does this

At my FLGS there is one kid who is extreamly clumsy, likes to be all touchy feely with your models(without asking) is a extreamly bad player, and has language that would make a sailor blush(he's 11, where the did he learn that word)

As a consequence most of us don't want to play against him. and then he whines when no one will play him. since there is an even number of players whoever shows up late has to play him and we all hate artifically racking up Wins because hes lame and has only won 1 game.

Its not fun to play Grey Knights and win easily. He ran a jet bike army and i had more models on table last monday. besides he tries to run 3 HQs at once and is always asking our resident Eldar expert, who is Kela Mensha Kaine personified (hes really that good) to come and help him and he can't even pull him to a draw.

Fortunatly he's only dropped PAGKs who can survive a light fall, but i worry about the fact this kid has no money to pay back any potential damages that might occur in the future.

Unless the owner is encourages me to do so, I rarely ask to hold even a basic troop. I'm physically fit enough to bend down and take a table level view.

If a model fell over and was damaged, I'd just fix it. If it was destroyed beyond repair, I would calmly ask that the individual replace it for me. Some folks would say give the kid a break, but as long as your request was firm and not done angrily, it can be a great chance for the kid to learn about responsibility. In fact, just letting it slide is worse for his development than applying a consequence.

I had an Imperial guard plastic colonel crushed in a similar experience. The 12 year olds parents bought me a new HQ squad as a sorry. I spent 2 weeks on that guy :(. Thankfully getting reimbursed wasnt too much of an issue as I used to regularly drink with his dad at the pub .

I'm not going to be winning any golden demons any time soon, so I generally don't care if people handle my stuff. If it gets broken, its not like I lack for spare Space Marines. Besides, one broken troop choice =/= a new box of troop choices. I would insist that he lend me a model to use in its place for a game in progress or about to start if I didn't have a replacement my self.

I suppose if it was a damaged vehicle, I'd be more annoyed, and probably expect appropriate compensation.

I try to be extremely causious with anything I handle that is not mine. Though I have had things break or drop unintentionally. The safer I try to be the worse it is lol. AnywayI hate people who touch my models without askingI spend alot of time on my stuff and don't like them randomly handled.

I rarely pick things up and if I do I ask how I should hold it...

I haven't racked up many games but I had my first model molester on Monday... I'm at my Uni's wargaming club and he just comes over whilst we're sitting back waiting for our opponent to show up (this is me and a friend, we were playing 2v2), the guy just picks up my Leman Russ and starts scrutinising it... Fair does, I took it as a compliment... but I did wish he could have just asked since I was there and hardly occupied... even a "Hello" would have been nicer.

Anyhoo, he then pops that down, and starts reading my IG codex... at the table... for about 10 minutes... I didn't need it so I didn't demand it back or anything, but would it have been too horrible to have just asked me if he could look through it?

I always ask before handling someone elses figure and do my best to let the move something themselves (if one of my rules moves their pieces). I don't know what I would do in that situation, they'de send me to jail if I killed the kid.

I was running a demo game at a hobby shop about 10 years ago with 5 other people, we were doing a 2nd edition game on a 8 foot by 12 foot table. Yes it was a PITA to move models around the center of the table. The game was 10k points a side, Each side had 3 players.

It was cold, I had on a knit sweater....one of the players had chaos bikers near a table edge. I leaned over to move some models near the center, and was unaware a spiky biker bit had been caught in my sweater. About 3 seconds later and 5 seconds to late a Biker was on the ground.

Panic ensued.

I of course being uncooridnated IRL stepped on it when trying to pick it up and crushed it into every single bit that it was made of.

I immediately felt like crap, offered to buy the guy a new bike on the spot and let him proxy any model in its place for the demo game. He declined and we became good friends.

My friend had his baneblade sat on by a morbidly obese 12 year old... needless to say, it was FUBAR. We later found out that it wasn't an accident when we overheard the kid bragging to his friends who we had just beaten in previous games... and that is why I dont play in public anymore.

I eyeball 'em. If they're really interesting (There's a SM player who has, literally, every part of every troop possible magnetized, plus his own display terrain), I'll ask to examine them.

However, I had a friend handle another friend's Monolith, literally tapped it, and the whole thing broke apart. That was more funny than anything.

Monos are notoriously fragile

they don't come with instruction on how to put them together (stupid GW ) so many players go for it. on top of the fact it dosnt go together very well

I own a business that has a fair amount of gaming going on in it, and I have a few armies out that people are allowed to play with. The general rule is this: There isn't anything that I can't repaint or glue back together; try to be careful, but accidents will happen...if it does happen, put all the pieces back on my desk so I can fix it later.

If it doesn't go back on the desk...MURDER MOST FOWL.

um... my computer?

I had a guy spill a coke on the table we were playing on at our flgs. Not to mention all over our guys. He didnt see any big deal (his army was barely undercoated). I played White scars at the time (note, WHITE). I wanted to completely freak all over the guy. I mostly kept my cool and asked around on whats the best way to clean sugar residue from minis. ugh...

One guy picked up my Wave Serpent and then stood on a nail or something on the floor so slammed my Wave Serpent down on the table ontop of one of my Jetbikes and then held his foot in pain. Can't really blame him for reacting by putting down my Serpent heavily but of all the places it had to be onmy Jetbike. Both flkying bases snapped in half! Grrrrr....

There isn't extra Jetbike bases included so that was one lost Jetbike for me. The Wave Serpent however I did recover but it is still annoying in the middle of a game!

They break one of your models.
Break one of their bones. Start with their fingers.
Admittedly, the scaphoid and hammer are two that are a little tricky. Go from there.

I have more models than people have bones.

Meh i have knocked a friend Calgar of the table without either of us realising i stood on it 20 seconds later (was at his house wernt wearing shoes) and it hurt like hell he thought it was fun until he realised the model was in half. i fixed it for hime with super glue and GS and touched up the paint job as payment but we both found it hilarious.

I've had a few DE warriors knocked off the table and stepped on. Probably my fault for setting up a gunline along the table edge. And one of the stomped on models was me doing it. Only snapped a splinter rifle and I have spares, so not too bad.

I will not let someone handle my metal models unless I know and trust them. The one time someone tried grabbing my highly converted and a touch unstable beastmaster off the table I snapped around and snarled so viciously they jumped a foot back from the table and have never done it again. I'll let people handle my plastic models if they ask nicely and I don't think they'll damage it.

I've only had one model belonging to someone else break in my hands. It was a Celestine conversion using metal wings instead of that cloak and only held on by a small amount of superglue at the join. I'd been running an unofficial painting clinic (just sitting there doing my own painting and having people ask for advice) so I offered to teach him how to pin to make the joint more stable, because I knew those wings were going to come off every time that model was jostled or transported. No hard feelings there especially when I pointed out why.
