I'm looking at doing a Space Wolves army but I'm not a fan of the iconography and fur stuff--Plus converting Thunderwolves from non-wolf models is easier. That having been said:
If I converted all my marines so that they were basically Space Raptors or Space Lizards including mounts, muzzles for guns, shoulder pads, squad markings etc would you have a problem playing against them? If so, why?
Input much appreciated!

Haha, no not at all. There is no set model for a Thunderwolf, so you can do ANYTHING for it.
Secondly, as long as you follow WYSIWYG, no one will have a problem.
Simply tell your opponent, "I'm using the Space Wolf codex but I like lizards so I made these guys. They basically are the average Space Marine Chapter, but they love close combat and are great at it, and the fact that they thought Gillyman was an arse, so they like their own style."
Plus, WHO CARES?! Nowhere does it say your Space Wolves need to have pelts and fur on em. That's what's great about using a codex like Space Wolves, it let's you play how you want. Plus, in a tourny, you'd still be allowed to play with a different color scheme and army feel, so long as you follow WYSIWYG. Not even TFG could say no.

Yeah, no obvious model whatsoever...

From what I've understood, that model is incredibly larger than the average thunderwolf should be. Heck, they even say in the codex it's the largest and basically the leader. I don't see why you'd call that the set model.
Also, as I said, you can make a Thunderwolf anything, even with Canis and his almighty SUPER SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE mount.

There is also the issue with Canis being attached to the damn wolf, so all your Thunder Wolf Cav will be Canis clones..
