Hello im new to the eldar I have 2 games under my belt with them.

Do you take wraith guard as a troop choice?
do you like to take pathfinders?
how do you best use your shooting advantage when in transports, like do you run up hope out and fire away and sacrifice squads or play the run and keep them at distance for most of the game?
Heavy support I have many choices I can take 3 falcons/5 reapers/wraithlord/2 cannon tanks(forgot name)

This is a full list of what I have could you give me some pointers on what and what go good.

40 guardians 3 weapons platforms
30 dire avengers
5 rangers
3 farseers 3 warlocks
1 eldrad
1 avatar
10 wraithguard
20 scorpions
15 banshees
9 harliquens
5 warp spiders
3 wave serpents
3 falcons
2 (cannon tanks)
1 wraithlord

All weapons can be changed off tanks and such. so if you want to suggest a 1500-2000 pt list I might try it out.

Thanks for all and any help.

Eldrad plus a Wraithlord is always a strong combo. With Dire Avengers as a meat shield you can deal a lot of damage. Rangers (especially as pathfinders) are amazing at lurking on objectives in cover, probably on of the most annoying things I've come across. Use these guys at the back of your line, deeply hidden in cover and your opponent will hate you for it.

Well, I play Eldar but not Iyanden.

If you want WG as troops, then add two Wraithlords with brightlances and eml's,
a Farseer with fortune,
a large Harlie squad with kisses for counter strike,
and some Dire Avengers with blade storm.

So you think wraithguard go good with wraithlords? Im not a fan of harlies but maybe ill give them a try. Im thinking 10 wraithguard to hold my home objective then add other units to take others. fire dragons/eldrad/wraithlord/dire avengers.maybe ill throw some transports in if i can find the points. any other suggestions?

Hi there,

I wouldn't call myself any kind of expert when it comes to Eldar. However, having played against them they seem to have the most cost effective way of killing the enemy I've yet seen.

I know you don't have them listed, so I apologise if you're unable to get hold of any for your force, but I've never seen a force as deadly as a unit of three War Walkers each equipped with a pair of scatter lasers. When used with a farseer (who can 'guide' them and 'doom' enemies) they can obliterate units from an outrageous range.

As for the rest of your force; the Dire Avengers are a good troop choice and put guardians to shame. Wraithlords are nigh-on invincible unless you're intentionally putting them in harms way. These should form the core of your force.

Well, Wraithguard should walk forward towards the enemy. Their shooting can be absolutely devastating.
Harlies are for counter-strike and should kept behind Wraithguard.
Wraithlords can counter-strike too and provide fire support.

Dire Avengers mounted in Serpents can intercept fast moving units like Gaunts, Gargoyles, or Storm Boyz.
Fire Dragons in Serpents can pop fast moving tanks like Landraiders.

I would actually do this the other way around, have the Harlies walk a few inches in front of the Wraithguard, at least for the first couple of turns. The Harlies won't get shot because the enemy can't target them at range and the Wraithguard in behind will get cover from the Harlies, something they will almost always need against the huge amount of heavy weapon fire which will come their way. Stay this way around until you get in close enough at which point they can switch places, Wraithguard shoot something to death and have the Harlies counter-charge. Wraithlord can be further back (along with Farseers and Guardians), I think they can use Wraithguard as cover (not 100% sure on heights).

Certainly don't use Wraithguard to hold your own objective, they are far too expensive with no way to force the enemy to come to them, the enemy can just sit outside 18" and keep shooting without fear of damage unless you want to walk off the objective. Far better to walk/run them at the enemy, Fortune them and have a unit of Harlies screening them and they will prove pretty effective. I don't recommend Rangers/Pathfinders due to the huge number of cover ignoring weapons around (most armies have flamers if nothing else) which will instantly lose you the squad if they get hit by one. They also can't move and shoot to allow you to keep moving away from danger. Guardians on foot (with Avatar and/or Warlock with Embolden to stop them running), Dire Avengers in a Serpent or Jetbikes are all better choices for objective capturing.

For your heavy slots, the 2 Fire Prism's and the Wraithlord are probably the best option, particularly if you are running Wraithguard. Prisms always work best in pairs so they can squash entire squads of MEQ in one shot and also become a very potent anti tank unit.

I've played with the Eldar once or twice, and I've found Pathfinders to be absolutely invaluable. As long as you don't use them as your only troops choice and keep them out of CC (preferably by using your other troops choices) they are a damn good unit for killing tough, heavily armored infantry and elites. I cannot reccomend (at least a squad of them) enough.

Besides, their shiny, selfless "we love everyone for the Greater Good" vibe is so unfitting for the "lulz we're all badass jerks" future of 40k. GW needs to play up their cold, calculating, "join us or die, and probably still die anyway" Borg-y style. That's just me of course."
