Im thinking of whether to use 2 skorchas on my deff dreads or 2 DCCW. My list is a standard dread bash (90 boyz,2kff,9kans,2dreads)

I figure if i get skorchas and drop the 'eavy armour on my KFF's i could get 5 rokkits (+1 i already have) and give 3 rokkits to each shoota squad (2 shoota/1 slugga)

2 DCCW would give the dread 7 str 10 attacks on the charge though (assuming he'd make it) but i'd only have one long ranged anti tank weapon which is bs5 in one of my shoota boy squads

I was leaning to skorchas but haven't had any personal experience. The threads have mixed opinions.

on a side note. Anyone know of how to pin/magnetize the new dreads/kans that will be coming out in march?

Dreads with 2 extra CCWs have 6 attacks on the charge (the extra from having the 2 initial ones are already included in their profile.) And I assume you mean you have bs 2 rokkits when you talk about about long range anti-tank in your shoota squad.

If you want ranged anti-tank in your list, give the kans rokkits and/or take lootas. They're much better at it than deff dreads. Personally I like deff dreads with 4 CCW where possible, but 3 CCW and a skorcha is cheaper and lets you take advantage of the rare opportunities to use your skorcha. Rokkits on dreads aren't terrible but are fairly mediocre. Most of the time I think I'd rather just run at the opponent for the opportunity to use my strength 10 attacks. I can't say I've had much experience with my kan wall yet, as it's still being built so I don't know how often the ability to use a skorcha comes up. My guess is not much.

Yep, 4x DCCW or 3x DCCW + Skorcha is the way to go, as the BS2 cripples any ranged weapon. Skorcha can help vs light infantry, but honestly your boyz are based around killing light inf as well, so the 4th DCCW is better for anti-heavy inf or anti-tank

That pretty much goes for everything with orks.

I started off using nothing but shoota boyz but soon found that all I ended up doing was running them at the enemy and getting them into combat, so I switched over my ork army to be cheap as possible with maxed out combat (other then the lootas of course).

What about long ranged tank busting though? Thats the only thing im short on in my list which is why i considered doing this.

BS3 kanz are much better at shooting than your BS2 dredd - a close combat dredd _and_ shooty kanz seems the ideal combination

Kans, walkerwise at least. Expecting to hit anything with a BS2 dread will be an exercise in frustration, especially when you can get more shots at BS3 for the same price on a similar platform.

As for dread loadouts, I always run flamer/flamer or occasionally flamer/dccw. Keep it cheap unless you have points for the extra CCW, and keep the dread moving towards CC where it's actually useful.

I have enough points to either make my deff dreads all skorchas and givev 3 rokkits to 2 boy squads or 1dccw/skorcha and 6 kans to rokkits leaving me with 30 points.

Besides Lootas there is nothing reliable in the ork dex for long ranged shooting, I just stick hitting tanks in CC.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

DCCW + skorcha for me. Template weapons are always worth taking on something charging up the field every turn.

If I took two Dreds (which I will), then I would run one with 4 DCCW and one with 3 DCCW and a Skorcha, and have them both run up one flank with the Dread with the Skorcha infront.

Why don't people take 2 skorchas?

In my mind, having two heavy flamers might cause enough casualties/flush out enough models that it might leave your dreadnought out of assault range.

Agreed. While it might work vs MEQs, if you fire 2 heavy flamers at a GEQ unit, it'll die before you can assault it, which is a big no-no

Also, it starts to deprive you of much needed CC power, and makes it harder to kill off tanks/light Inf in CC

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Your elite slots are empty, and Lootas are great for popping transports; presuming your killa-kans all have rokkits, sticking the two together is a good chunk of anti-tank. You have STR10 DCCWs in abundance to deal with land raiders up close and personal.

I didn't have enough points for lootas so i went for a cheap alternative which is the SAG. This is a fun list so it was the perfect 'solution' I know your love for lootas Dash but there just isn't enough space in my 1500pt list =p.

Just a side question- would it be worth it to take off 4 boyz from each squad (making a total of 75 boyz) to add two buggies with rokkits for tank busting? I know they move faster than the horde but its for flanking/baiting/confusing the enemy. I always thought 75 boys is a bit low especially in a kan list. What do you think?

75 Boyz is not too few at the 1500pt. level when you're also granting them near-constant cover saves with KFFs and Kan walls.

Rokkit Buggies seem to be the best kind of Buggies, though I would also look at Deffkoptas for a disposable tank-killing role. They're a little more expensive, but have the advantage of Turbo-Boosting in the Scout move and possibly getting a side armor shot on the first turn.

Bear in mind that I'm a very casual player, and any advice I give will reflect that tendency.

Actually my first choice was deffkoptas Alane but i only had 72 points after removing 4 boys from each squad so i wanted to have at least two units that way i could at least do a bit more than just popping tanks and transports. In other words i didn't think 1 deffkopta would be as useful as 2 warbuggies. quantity>quality i suppose

I always take 2 Skorchas on my Deff dread, but I guess it depends on who you are facing, after all, skorchas arn't going to do nearly as much to space marines as they would to 'Nids or IG
