Hi all.
I finally painted a showcase piece of the Snake themed rhino kit I did a while ago.
Thing is I fell in love with it as I painted it (almost regret not having a small Iron Snake army) but I realized I could take the master sculpt and redo it a bit.
My idea is to make the front plate into something else that might fit chaos tastes a bit and all things dragon (yeah me and my Salamanders, I´m biased I know).
So since this will take time do you think it might be a good idea to re-sculpt the front plate to have a dragon head instead of a snake head?
I´m only talking about the front plate for now. The whole thing looks like this:
And the front plate from other angles:
So should I do it or scrap the idea to make a second version of that front plate (if so I´ll just sculpt up one for my personal use).

Oh I don't know...why don't you theme it around a three headed dragon chapter....a chapter that is known for its subtle methods of war...like my message...subtle...

I'm with AgeOfEgos something that could pass for alpha legion would be cool. Obviously I'm not as subtle.
Not to high jack the thread but I'd love to see you guys do custom torso's for imperial guard, i'm thinking something in the vein of colonial marines from aliens.

Snake scales do not look like that at all. How about something that looks more like this:

I would say for snake themed armies leave it as is because if you would redo the front with a dragon type head wouldn't really tie togather well. Were right now what you have ties the theme togather really well.

I'm intrigued by the 'infinity loop' pose the snake is in - I rather like the idea of the shape being part of the chapter symbol (as opposed to just being a snake in any old pose).
So personally I reckon keep the loop pose and redo the other snakes to also be in that same pose.

It's not actually in an infinity loop, you can see in the second picture where the tail goes short and ends (though because of the shape of the pose it attaches to the head).
Though that sounds like a pretty nice idea, and agree with you on the snakes
now back on topic: Pyriel-. Let me compliment you on a nice job you did with them , and id go for clang's suggestions. I like the snakes head, and the other ones can be redone (but that is your choice).

Lol... it reminds me of that book I had as a little kid where the snake eats its own tail... "The Greedy Python" or something to that effect.
Or that southpark episode where that famous magician eats his own head.
..... Anyway, good job on the sculpts. I think they are killer.

I wouldnt even know where to start in altering that one snake to a three headed thing and still have it look somewhat good.
I like everything but the armor plates.
Snake scales do not look like that at all. How about something that looks more like this:
So where is the difference between the scales you show in the pic and the ones I did on the snake body?
As for the other snakes, these are to small to do traditional snake scales on, it is a question of time and also detail. You see, if I make the little snakes scaled like that the detail will be so small casting will degrade it a little bit and then any layer of paint will smoothen the texture and the scales will basically be thrown away.
Terran snake scales might not. What the scales of alien snakes 40000 years from now might look like is anyone's guess...
I still fail to see what the difference is between the pic and the front plate snake scales. The tips are not as rounded true but its pretty close and they were a nightmare to sculpt as it was so I guess most people wouldnt be to anal about the rounded tips.
If I´m not I figured its ok and I´m a perfectionist pedant when it comes to detail, much to Nicks dismay I might add
I would say for snake themed armies leave it as is because if you would redo the front with a dragon type head wouldn't really tie togather well. Were right now what you have ties the theme togather really well.

Well, I´ll let Nick decide that one. If he wants a change I´ll redo them.
..... Anyway, good job on the sculpts. I think they are killer.

Snakes and Basilisk's are pretty similar. You could do webbed ears and two fangs in front that way you are not changing it up much, but still looks chaosish.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |
