Hey Dakka,

For an Exodite themed force, I've been getting an itch to convert the following into a jetbike council:

http://pathoftheexodite.blogspot.com/search/label/Seer%20Council

The best part is it is about $20-25 USD for 5 of them (plus bits that I own.)

I don't know if these questions fit in the rules section; feel free to move this thread .

The bases they come with are huge and rectangular, and probably will be frowned upon. Should I use the rectangular bases, or the equivalent of war walker bases, or terminator bases, or (somehow) the ones a step smaller? Or will they not be allowed (in general) in local tourneys at all?

The reason I'm asking is (in your experience) will the only protester to this conversion be TFG, or will there be a more general-consensus objection to it?

Out of curiosity: How many of you like the jetbike council/skimmer hybrid approach over pure mech?

Also, here is the justification for levitating dinosaur jetbikes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbFncFZdZDQ

I'm going to go nurse a fever now, sorry if this post came out confusing.

1. As long as the finished model's footprint is roughly the same as a regular jetbikes you should be fine. Just remember that any 'Counts As' models usually have to be approved by the TO prior to the event. If you get the ok from the TO, then TFG can STFU (sry :S Acronym attack).

Most gamers really enjoy playing against lovingly performed moddings. As long as the model is roughly the same size, has roughly the same base size and the counts-as is not contradictory or too confusing, you should be fine.

Simply point out what it is actually supposed to be, and you won't have a problem with 99% of people.

Jetbikes use flying stands, not bike bases

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

As above - as long as you let people know what they are, and are consistent in your "counts as", 99.9% of peopel will not have an issue with it.

A friend of ours won "best army" at least years GT, using an exodite army - Gnarlocs and Great Knarlocs (these were fire prisms, WOW they looked good) - so trust me, if it ilooks cool you will be fine

The usual caveat about TOs being idiots applies here, thankfully theyre few and far between.

Remember, one in a million people will have a problem with it, so you will run into them at about 10% 90% of events you attend.

Can't remember, and I messed up, that 10% is supposed to be 90%

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

One of the Cohen the Barbarian/Rincewind books where they go to the Counterweight continent. [/Off topic]

And that idea sounds pretty cool, I would have no problems playing against it.

You mean Interesting times - actually the odds are 100,000 to 1, as there are 7 members of the horde and 700,000 enemy troops. Close though

If memory serves its The Light Fantastic where it is first mentioned. Anyways, back on topic....

Yes, 99.9% of the time, as long it looks cool (the rule of cool) you shouldnt have issues. However best practice is to ask TOs *before* the tournament, so there is no feeling that there is a fait accompli going on with you turning up expecting to play. In addition expect to have to remind people frequently (and if theyre me, almost constantly ) what the models represent, and dont get annoyed if this happens a lot - it is only fair to your opponent.

If you want to ensure that they're tournament legal, put them on 60mm bases to match the jetbikes that they're intended to replace.

If you're really just intending them for friendly gaming, just put them on whatever looks good and the vast majority of players not only won't mind, but won't even stop to consider that they might not be based 'correctly'...

Insaniak - respectfully they still may not be "tournament legal", as the TO can completely arbitrarily decide to ban any models, as they have final say on everything.

You are less likely to incur the wrath of a TO by basing them correctly, however they could still decide to ban the models for any reason they want to.

Yup, as long as it's consistent, it shouldn't be a problem. I'd see if you can mount them on painted base sections of flying bases (get a flying base, don't put the stick on, glue your cold one to it, paint it like a normal base).

To be honest, if I was doing it, I wouldn't use the jetbike rules too much, to avoid confusing people, and just use them with the generic bike rules (so exactly the same, but without flying over things...!)

I'd draw the line at the Knarlocs, though. Using it as a vehicle would be a bit too far in my opinion. Using it as a wraithlord (another monstrous creature) would be fine, though....

When we refer to 'tournament legal' we generally mean 'following the rules as generally applied in tournements'... which, so far as bases are concerned, are never going to prohibit a model from being based on the correct sized base.

You're paying the points for jetbike rules (eldar jetbikes actually)... why would you use generic bike rules? Aside from gimping yourself, generic bikes are not in the eldar codex and would essentially be make-believe units. Its called "counts as" not "sort of like..."; you either count them as a tournament legal council on eldar jetbikes or ban the models altogether.

Make it mean, keep it lean, give it purpose.
