I just got curious as to what you see/do to choose friends on Dakka. Personally, I just let others decide if I'm a friend to them or not. So how about you?

Not really to sure myself. As yet I haven't sent any friend requests, but then I haven't been on here all that long.

I would imagine that if you get into a conversation with someone on here and agree with their ideas and veiws (or at least respect them) then you may decide to sent them a request.

The main thing which has put me off sending any requests is that most of the people who you get talking to are long time members who have high post counts and lots of friends already so this may put them off accepting which could then be a bit awkward.

Also I'm not really too sure if there is any difference between having someone added as a friend or not. For me it is a little too much like Farcebook.

You 'choose' friends? What kind of cold hearted... Nevermind the rest of that sentence.

Anyway, I never choose for a person to become my mate, it just happens. Maybe we kick up a roarer of a laugh, or have fun playing some sort of sport or just have a good talk every now and then.

You can say that you're going to be friendlier to someone, but you can't point at someone and say 'Mate No.1 I choose you!' and make them your friend.

I add interesting people to my friend list here on Dakka, so it is easier to see their new threads/etc.

In terms of actually being friends with people... I don't know. I find I am usually very hard to convince that someone likes me or I like them. It is not that I don't have empathy, it is just that I don't really feel those kinds of connections with people very easily unless I spend a lot of time with them in person.

I've got three friends on Dakka so far.

Che-Vito, because he added me, but I do tend to share similar views.

Orkestra, because he's a funny dude.

and DarkVoid40k, because he added me, and we've given each other some pretty good advice so far.

Oh. And Captain Solon, because for some reason, I get get a certain joy out of his barely sensible ramblings.

I don't have friends, in IRL or on this forum.

Only one person chose me as a friend, and that would be Greenblowfly.

So I wonder what that says about me?

Forever alone

I have no idea why my friends list is so long.

It's certainly not a reflection of my real social life (not that I'm claiming to have one).

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I usually add people if they add me, basically I have not turned down a friend request yet, but I guess I'll add others too if they're alright, or if I get around to it (which reminds me ). Of course if you remove me from friends list, I remove you as well

Friend in real life is not a problem, getting time away from work and family to go drinking with them is, but thats life!

I'm not really too bothered by the friend thing on Dakka, but I only get on the site sporadically so I'm not sure that my occassional postings really make any impact to the whole Dakkaverse? The whole "poking" people on Facebook to get a long friends list has always seemed a little desperate to me and this is kind of similar [or is it my fear of rejection ]

Of course if anyone listed me as a friend i'm sure I would be all turned around on the subject, I guess i'm just shallow that way!

In fact now I think of it, my new hope during the forthcoming Dakka Events in the UK will revolve around smarmying up to Dakkaites and getting on their friend list by being easily beaten at 40K. [fingers crossed, this time next year I could be Gwars RAW wingman!]

I hate to break it to you, but you are the only "person" on the internet who is not actually a real person. We didn't want to tell you, but we felt we kind of owe it to let you know now. We had a big discussion about you that you were not invited to.

Let's see...*consults friends list*

AgeOfEgos: Added me after I spent half an hour typing up post about the nature of morality in the original recasting thread. I like compliments to my intelligence, so I return'd the favour.
Alpharius: Fellow Mod
bebe-paquito: I actually have no idea.
Jin: Fellow Mod
Kilkrazy: Fellow Mod
LunaHound: Added me after and anime thread
Manchu: Added me after a riveting and entirely civil fluff discussion spanning about four pages between us.
MeanGreenStompa: Can't remember, but we've always got along all right.
reds8n: Fellow Mod who I've met in real life, and lives in the same area as me.
RiTides: I added him shortly after I joined Dakka, as he's the most positive and pleasant user on Dakka I've yet to encounter.
Scaraman: My housemate
The Machine Spirit: For fun.
Thor665: Me, him, and clthomps are the only DE players who seem to frequent the tactica section. He knows his stuff, and can handle and justify his end in a debate. He also consulted me whilst writing his magnificent DE tactica.
Typeline: I think had a funny avatar. Or something.
Wrexasaur: Makes rather witty intelligent posts from time to time depending on his mood. I forget who added who.

I share that weird feeling that I'm the only 'real' person sometimes. I was once told that nothing was real, it was all my imagination. It hurts to think about it.

Back OT, I guess I do what everyone else does. If someone adds me, I add them.

Here are the following people I have on my friend list - I always list back. It's just polite.

FITZZ - Cool taste in music, continuing 'good blokesmanship'.
gradziol - Lives in my town, planned on setting up a game. Hasn't happened just yet.
Howard A Treesong - Did a trade. Nice bloke.
IRPurple - Can't remember.
J.Black - Fellow manchester denizen - funny. Being funny is the most important criteria for adding someone on here, for me anyways.
JEB_Stuart - All-round stand-up bloke. Knowledgable.
Kanluwen - Not sure, thought he hated me. Pretty funny, anyway...
Kilkrazy - Nice bloke, not sure why he added me though...
Manchu - Good blokesmanship/taste in music
mattyrm - Is a mate IRL.
Navster - Lives in my town - setting up games in the future
Petty Officer D - Top bloke, funny.
Slappywag - See above, plus great taste in music
tblock1984 - Nice chap, interesting and also pretty funny

So that's why!
