Simple question:

Situation: land speeders have two sizes of flying base-poles (one longer and one shorter.)

I want to put both together (i.e as one pole)

Moddeling to advantage?

I can't help feeling this isn't a serious question...

However, legal or not, I can't see it being a good idea... it would be fragile as all get out.

If you really want your speeder on a longer flight stem, you would be better off just using the piece of plastic rod or clear acrylic rod. Or buying a Valkyrie base.

Yeah, this smacks of being a sily post. However as above - yes, you could use it but it seems like the slightest breeze would knock it over.

You could put wire through the middle of both, and the plastic Land Speeder is pretty light.

Do it!

I wanted to put an ork Nob hanging off the side (i'd be re-supporting it, of course.) but I'd still need it to be game-playable, and I'm not great at magnetising.

Is it legal to change the skimming stand height, depends upon your opponent and the judge.

Page 3 of the rulebook covers the rule for 'bases'. If you want to use a scenic base, it may effect the way the unit plays in the game, make sure your opponent doesn't mind before you use it.

Page 71 states that skimmers have transparent 'flying bases' under the Measuring Distances section. It states the hull is used for measuring distances too / from the skimmer with exception for weapons, access points, fire points. Regarding assaults, you can use the base, the hull or both.

Though the book does not discuss the the 'flying base' pole, the INAT has determined that the pole is part of the base and therefore is subject to the same rules as the base.

So, to be safe in a tournament environment, either make it removable and replacable with a standard base height to be safe, or model at your own risk.

Cheers,

Tac

Use three REALLY powerful magnets in the base, then another really powerful one on the land speeder and have it actually HOVERING over the base!!!

um... my computer?

I dont even know how that would work. You want BOTH of them on the same base? Or do you want them both stacked on top of eachother? Either way, why?

I've explained, I'm gonna have an ork nob hanging off the side for our LGS's conversion award.

I've drawn it out already.

it looks cool on paper and the model is really looking good. (his face makes him look like hes crying.)

I feel like this should be in Painting & Modeling

Why not just save yourself the headache and use stiff wire instead of the stick that comes with the flying base? Cut up a coat hanger, it's just as visible as those clear bases are and can be repaired if it breaks.

Or just use brass rod and a resin base. I can cut it to whatever length I want, and it's never going to break.

I'd rather resurrect a relevant thread than start a duplicate one

The way I see land speeder height is that it should be whatever you want, for two reasons:
1: if it can shoot over stuff, more stuff can shoot it, so theres not really an unfair advantage to being out in the open more
2: it's really really cool

What if you used telescopic antennas like for cheapo remote controlled cars

You could use them low to be within the rules and use them high when your opponent doesn't mind

You could include vertical movement in your horizontal movement, move 4" forward and drop 3" for a total of 5" movement? Obviously you won't be doing trig each movement when you have a tape measure in 3d space, but as an example

I'm off to find some small telescoping antenna
