Ultramarine Scout with Sniper Rifle

I am new to the game, playing regular old Space Marines. My idea for the scouts are this.
5 Close Combat Weapons and Bolt Pistols
3 Sniper Rifles
1 Heavy Bolter/Hellfire Rounds
And Sgt Tellion

Combat Squad them into sniper team and assault team.

Infiltrate the Snipers, heavy bolter and Tellion into a good cover spot to fire and pin enemy units.

Put the CCW Scouts in a Land Speeder Storm to disembark, shoot and assault the pinned enemy units.

Workable idea? I like the scout models and dig me some Tellion

Its a bad idea.
4/5 of the killing power of a Storm Squad comes from the PF Sergent. Without him, the unit will bounce off almost anything.
Also, the situation WILL occur, when combat squading is a bad idea. Then, you have half the unit sitting around, looking like lemons, for the rest of the game.

5 Scouts: 4x BP+CCW, 1x Sarge w/PF, Shotgun
10 Scouts: 8x Sniper, 1x HBolter, 1x Telion
LSS

Is a much better idea


If you want to take 2 full units, give the other half of the Storm squad shotguns, and Infiltrate/Outflank them.

Currently I only have enough to do a single full squad. And I am planning on buying some transports and heavy support with my gaming budget.

Could I do essentially what I said, but have 2 squads of 5? That way I could drop a Sgt with power fist in the assault group on the land speeder.

Yep, 2 units of 5 is far better than 1 of 10

You NEED that fist in a storm squad.

I would suggest getting more models in the Tellion squad, though. 5 models means that Tellion will catch it pretty quickly.
