Hey all, I bought some degreaser to strip paint with, and I decided to use poor Lt. Varras as my test subject. As you can see below, everything went swimmingly.

But now the problem is I want to turn him into a playable model. My ideas were to greenstuff over the geneseed case and turn him into a Medic or radio dude to work with the IG army that I -eventually- plan on building. What should I do with him Dakka? What say you?

He could be:

A medic
A officer with demo charge/melta bomb
An objective marker

Too many options...

Inquisitional henchman, IG medic, rip off the bolt pistol and replace it with a heavy weapon for a Servitor, replace the lower half with scout legs as a veteran scout sergeant or a scout medic.

Or even keep him as is and use him as a mission objective.

Just off the top of my head

you couls also make a IG commisar out of it if you replace the gene-sheet-thing with a close combat weapon and maybe sculp a cap

I would shave off the Aquila, cut off his weapons and gear and make him a Digganob
But, then again, I am currently playing around with the idea of Digga "counts as" grots with a Digganob "counts as" runt herder.

Decapitate, reposition the legs, place the body on a large base lying front-up. Use it as an objective marker: Buddy carrying experimental bio-weapons (whatever) had his noggin taken off by a sniper.

Since he's carrying gene-seed, I'd say as an objective would be a great use!

Sorry slightly off topic but what degreaser did you use for that, I've only every used acetone free nail polish remover but you have to really babysit it and the results are nowhere near as clean as this.

Ideas for you, sculpt the Gene-seed container into some kind of Inquisitorial lock box. Then use him as an objective marker, it could contain secret orders that a commander has to carry out once they've retrieved the marker, think Order 66.

It would make a perfect medic without any changes. Just paint up the geneseed case to look like he's carrying tubes of chemicals.

Yeah, medic will be fine as he is, especially given that he is (kinda) rare, I would hesitate in converting him too much..

Nicely done on the stripping by the way.

I've got two Lt. Varras's in my IG army, and I use them both as officers, and one or two more that I haven't decided what to do with yet. I think an officer, officer of the fleet, or master of ordinance are the best choices since he already has the long coat, and a large aquilla on his chest. However I did see an adepticon writeup a couple years back where someone had converted Varras into a cool inquisitor.

As to my conversion, I found that the arms are easily removed, and cadian arms fit on perfectly. The head is easy to remove and then you can carve away the neck inside the collar and place an IG head in there. I also shaved off the breathing tube that hangs over the shoulder. It sounds complex, but it's quite easy even for me.

Here's the first draft.

He's now painted and has a pig iron gas-masked officers cap and a bolt pistol instead of the storm bolter. I'll get some pictures up eventually. The second Varras is very similar with a different sword and I left the breathing tube in place.

Here's two other shots.

Varras without arms

A first draft of my second Varras showing a possible conversion idea if you don't want to completely remove the arms.
