I haven´t played 40K in a loooong time, and didn´t really care to but then one day I fell over a box with a Stompa pic. Damn was that an impressive sight! Well, this made me look at the apocalypse book and the especially the Ork section with their super heavies and I was sold, the battle report featuring a green tide of immense proportion was just too incredible not to try and replicate.
So I began to scour Ebay and my local forum and within 14 days I had the first 3K points, or as I prefer to think of it, a good start.

My only prob with the Ork´s was their skin colour, I´m not relly that into their green colour, maybe I´ve painted too much green in my fantasy Ork days, I don´t know. I just knew that they were not to be green.
Blue was out of the question, angry smurfs, no!
Because of their leather clothes I couldn´t make them too dark, it wouldn´t look good on a gaming table, so I tried red.

My boss was the first to get a red skin job and he got a little too light, so the next batch received a darker foundation which worked a lot better

And a pic of Lady Justice from Malifaux, and fun skirmish game where you use cards instead of dice. She´s not quite finished yet.

Thats pretty cool. I paint my orks orange like pumpkins. Bring and cartoony ^_^

Enough people will say orks MUST be green, but no. It'll be cool to see what else you paint

Do they move faster because they are red?

And they look pretty cool (and are well painted), just have to get over the whole "they are red" thing first

I've always liked the idea of a Khorne worshipping Chaos Ork army that paint themselves red in honour of the Blood God.

I play orks and I think it's fun when folks deviate from the norm. You can always explain it as "chaos exposure" or something. Looks good, sorta demonic.

I totally agree they should be allowed to move faster because they are red! I like the way you think!

Because the outer layer of an Ork's skin is some kind of fungus/algae, you can alaways just say it is red algae/fungi, developed on a world where the sunlight is different to most worlds, and all the plants are red to take advantage from the spectra put out by the sun.

i don't see a problem with non-green orks. Your's look really good. plus, because of the green majority, yours will really stand out on the table.

nice job.

Ah! A fellow Fel Orc painter
I gotta say, I really like what you've done!

At the moment I haven't taken any updated pics of mine, but I came up with a similar tone of skin. mine's just darker and has a higher contrast in the shadows.

Gotta say, the green really sets off the skin. the tones of both are great!
Keep up the good work!

Probably not but only because Gargamel is after them

Thank you for all the positive feedback! I love it

Btw. the theory about the colour change being because of difference in the light spectra is brilliant, I´ll remember to credit you every time I tell people why my Ork´s are red.

I would say that the green armor makes the pics look like the colors were switched in photoshop.

That being said, I think the red makes them look very unique and rather demonic. Makes them look more aggressive.
