Hi guys,

Just wondered if anyone else had tried ordering one of these codexs online as of late... I went into my FLGS yesterday to check for the codexes, but they were gone... went to place an online order and were unavailable...

Is there a new codex in the works, hence the reason for the unavailability (similar to when I went to order the old space wolves battalion box)?

It's been gone for a little while, but I'm guessing that's what they're probably doing. Best place to pick one up if you're looking for one is a local GW, because it doesn't look like they're anywhere else and seems like they're just getting rid of whatever stock they have left.

I got mine off amazon.com for $6 used. I ordered it before they pulled it from GW site so it might be a little harder to find one there right now but your only other option is what n0t_u said.

Anyway, this seems to be happening a lot recently. They just sell their stock and can't be bothered to make any more.

Prob. they just want to stop some people from mixing Inquisition with the new Blood Angels

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

As far as I know the codex has been removed because they are planning on releasing a new daemonhunters codex (possibly inquisition codex) the old one is no longer available. I guess its so someone doesn't buy the old one then find out they have to buy the new one to play with their new army.

Yeah, pretty old news there. They do it to every codex AFAIK before they release a new, updated 'dex for the army. It's still in the rumor mill as to what, specifically the new codex will be (Though a lot of people think it'll be a straight Inquisition codex, combining everything into one). I've heard it could be three in total - a combined Inquisition codex, one for Sisters of Battle and one for Grey Knights. In any case though, this is nothing new.

Personally i wouldn't bother getting the old codex as it is pretty much unusable in 5th edition.

Although the models look great they aren't really a playable force anymore, the only way DH can be used with any affect in 5th edition is as allies to a stronger force.

I know all this because I have the old codex and a sizable force of GK but have given up using them as every time I do I get my ass handed to me.

Hell even Imperial guard have taken out my army before i got a chance to fire a shot.

I hope they are bringing a new codex out, the old codex didn't give you enough unit's/weapons to make them effective (no troop carried heavy weapons), but to be quite honest there are so few people who used the old codex I doubt they will bother.

What special rules there are to help the GK combat daemons are now so out dated they are not relevant anymore.

The shrouding didn't work as most people can roll 8 or higher on three D6 which is the most you will ever really have to roll as most weapons have a 24 inch range these days.

Plus if you get to fight daemons you end up just facing wave after wave of lesser daemons as they can come back on because of the daemonic infestation rule (massive army of respawning daemons + GK = pointless meat grinder you can't win!)

And for the final bit of codex bemoaning, the units that are available in the codex are that expensive you end with half the number of troops as anybody else e.g. 10 man GK squad in power armour with 1 psycannon and 1 incinerator = 310pts whereas BA tactical squad 10 man with meltagun and missile launcher 210pts

In any case it was probably pulled because very few people use it, having spoken to GW staff they aren't expecting to see a new codex before the end of this year.

``Even''? Are you suggesting the Guard are not a very effective army?

Psycannons and Incinerators are heavy weapons (Assault by rules, but heavy by context/usage).

Almost all of them still work.

Daemonic Infestation does nothing under fifth edition rules. Daemonhunters can be an `I win' button vs Daemons.

To answer your points

1. It was a pre new codex guard army

2. No anti armour heavy weapons and with most armies being able to field armour of some for or another GK tend to get rolled into paste by big old tanks quickly.

3. Most of the special rules provide only a small bonus which is generally negated by the presence of the above mentioned big old tank

4. OK you got me on the daemonic infestation rule

Love my GK's running with 30 PA, stern+5GKT, GM+5GKT, Incinerator Purgation Squad, Psycannon purgation squad and a TLLC/ML dread, they normally give a good account of themselves, granted the shrouding rarely works and they are bloody expensive (money+points) but i dont find them that bad, however its normally luck that decides whether its a win/loss/draw.

If GKs are played correctly they can win quite easily.

True, our troops don't have anti-armor weapons, but that is what LRs and Dakka dreds are for.

Shrouding is VERY effective. My worry is that it will get nerfed in our next Dex. Our best ranged weapon the psycannon can shoot farther then the average range of shrouding.

Our Dreadnoughts are cheaper then normal marines. They can hide behind our PAGKs for cover and shoot down enemy tanks.

In CC our NFWs are pretty effective against vehicles as we now hit the rear armor in CC.

Offensive Psychic powers are still useless against us. Lash, Doom, Psychic Scream, Smite..... These are all powers that are very difficult for enemies to hurt us with. Our Hoods have an unlimited range too.

Technically Both a psychic hood and the Aegis can be used on a single enemy psychic power.

Opponents tend to underestimate us making them think they can be sloppy.

All of these are reasons that GKs are still viable in 5th

They still "slay outright" instead of the recent "Inflict Instant Death".
So they bypass eternal warrior.

Probly gonna start a war here but if you look in the DH codex it says the force weapons "slay outright" not cause instant death hence ignore eternal warrior, there are some other examples in the game still, i'm sure someone can find others.

Lots of people seem to argue against it but my local GW store manager says thats how it should be otherwise DH's suddenly become at killing deamons

EDIT: beaten to it

Codex always over rules the main rule book thats why DH assault cannons are not rending and only get 3 hits not 4. So if it says slay outright then that is what happens full stop.
