I've been monitoring the thread about in on ATS, and one of the members is L.A. has felt some shaking there. Anybody in Dakkaland getting rocked?

My wife's okay so far. She is just outside Tokyo.

They get worried whenever a major earthquake occurs anywhere, because it reminds everyone that Tokyo's turn is overdue.

A Tsunami is expected in Hawaii in about ten hours or so. I don't think I'll be able to sleep until I hear how that turns out. From what I've read on ATS, this is the result of a massive coronal mass ejection that is striking the Earth's magnetic field this weekend.

I live in Japan about 100 yards from the sea. If there is a big Earthquake or tsunami, I'm fethed. Good thing I regret nothing.

You had better give Mrs Kornholio a proper send off then.

Get off Dakka and get to work.

Earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and Wayne Bridge did not shake John Terry's hand. Is this the end? Shall I bother finish writing this essay on bus costings?

That would most certainly be a sure sign of the end of the world.

We've got a tsunami warning over here as well although it doesn't worry me to much I'm pretty sure it won't hit us at all.

Man, I'm glad I live in Alberta, where the closest thing we've had to a natural disaster was a funnel cloud.

Oh, and the oil sands.

Forever alone

The most extreme weather you'll ever get here in Tasmania is a lightning storm with gale force winds. Never had a tornado, major earthquake, tsunami or anything like that IIRC.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I used to go tornado chasing with my dad.

That had to be the most anti-climatic Tsunami ever. The whole country was on Tsunami alert. The beach was closed. Sirens all morning. News of non-stop impending aquatic destruction. Friends bringing their valuables over to my place because they live even closer to the beach. 2 metres was the warning. When it came it was a wafty 20cm high. 8 inches. Yippie.

I was at a friend's place watching from his balcony on the 6th floor, but NHK (the Japanese Broacasting Company) showed all the spectators along the coast. Lunacy. Total waste of Sunday. Time to paint.

Yeah, but this is just the beginning of the end. There were also earthquakes in Alaska, Greece and Afghanistan today. I'm gonna keep CNN on, even when I'm asleep.

We had a ridiculous wind/rain storm Thursday night up here in New England. ~ a million people lost power, I think? Here in NH we had gusts approaching 60mph, and it went on for hours. Trees were down all over the place, the streets full of branches and garbage, street and highway signs all twisted and canted around. One of my staff totaled his SUV evading a big pine down in the left lane on I93 Southbound. Friday morning I drove past the tree, cut off by the highway dept about a foot short of the yellow line on the left side.

I was gaming with friends in a nearby city that evening, but had the bad planning to be running on fumes when I got there, so had to look for gas before heading home. Practically the whole city's power was down, and I had to check about a half-dozen gas stations before I could find one with working pumps. I filled the tank, headed into the 7 Eleven for coffee, and they lost power while I was in there. Glad I filled up the tank first... A few minutes into my drive home the entire sky in front of me was illuminated by a GREEN lightning flash. Never saw that before. It was pretty neat, though freaky. Power was out when I got back, but it was restored ~9pm last night.
