Highlord with a Blackstone Fortress

I am looking at various Confrontation sales rather than Vampire Counts or Skaven for my next purchases. For a start its a much better value, second its money not going to GW which is policy this year, and in fact has been a loosely held agenda for much longer.
The trouble is the Confrontation foums are really poor. There is a poverty of tactical or even basic unit information. So unless i opened up a plethora of new threads I thought I might as well ask here. Where noone will consider it odd to ask for an army breakdown or help designing a list.
So
1. Is there a decent Confrontation forum out there that deadlwith the current Confrontation range. I am not interested in the old stuff, I only have one model and that, a Pythia, was purchased only to serve as a High Elf mage.
2. Tell me about the current range, what works, what doesnt etc. I have read the rulebook and played some intro games last year (it is not in my possession) and I have the Wolfen army book recent purchase. I am thinking of getting two fairly large Temple and Wolf armies, possibly Dirz too in time if I can find anything I like about them.
please tell me more, if I got a boxset of everything for the two armies, which wont cost much at the moment. What would I get for my time. Is the game any good, is it balanced.

The official forum is your best bet. The problem with Confrontation AoR is that the releases are too slow. Many people put the game aside for the time being.

If you're looking to start up, the Army Boxes are good buys(the Wolfen look Naff, but nothing picking out some details and dipping won't fix). I'd also stick with the armies that are currently available in plastic. The PDFs do a decent job pulling the metal armies in, but they're not as well tested or balanced as the actual books are. If you've played a good amount of AT-43, you've got the basics down. Magic/Miracles, etc. take a bit more reading and are pretty confusing at first, but a few games in, you'll get the hang of em. The Wolfen box(notice a trend here?) isn't exactly the best for learning these mechanics, as there's no real mage/priest in the box heroes. Exploding sixes make the game a bit more exciting than AT-43, too. Elves are planned for the next army, not sure which type, though. I know I seem to knock the Wolfen box a bunch, but it IS the only one I have currently(had a chance between that one and Lions for my second freebie box at GenCon, but I prefer the Wolfen and Devourers).

I'm also starting to get more and more angry with GW and their ridiculous policies. I decided to try Confrontation. I just got the Wolfen and Lion boxes as well as the full rulebook. The models are really nice and detailed! Of course the paint-jobs are very basic, but everything is assembled so even if you decide to paint everything yourself for nicer looks you will still save time compared to buying GW.
The books are much nicer and more colorful that the GW counterparts, a very nice change! And, you can download the pdf versions without feeling like a gangster. (Not that I ever felt like a gangster about it but you know what I mean.)
I haven't gotten any games yet so unfortunately I cannot tell you anything about that. I'll get back as soon as I have tried.

Yeah, everything would benefit from being Dipped. The Wolfen box models would also benefit from having their straps and cloth painted before being dipped. There's very little work required to get the Prepaints to a better standard of painting than what comes from the box.

My first order of Confrontation is on its way from the US.
I played a few intro games last year, a friend bought the boxset. We liked the system.
My money sink was in AT-43 until now, I still dont have my ONI army but will be waiting for that, its new stock so time is on my side.
Currently I am looking at 3-4k points of Wolfen, Dirz and Griffin factions, excluding heroes. I don't like the RAM, like undead but not what Rackham have done with them. i do like the lion, even more so than the Griffin, but both are good and Griffin costs less. I will likely buy lion at the same time I buy ONI.

Hi, I'm getting a few games under my belt and I really like the system. Somehow its much easier to grasp and get an intuition for than WH40K. Confrontation is a bit more like LotR:SBG but larger battles run smoother than in LotR:SBG.
The community at the confrontation forums has been very helpful in explaining the rules. Coming from a uniquely GW background it is amazing to find rules, army books and even an army builder style app, online for free downloading! You are allowed to openly discuss points values on forums, the books are not screwed up by piracy fear so everything about a unit is on one friggin page instead of spread out all over the codex.
I do love GWs models and used to love their games, but the newest books they have made are of low quality for a very high price with rules that constantly are getting more and more exceptions in order to sell models almost every month. I can't keep up, and they are not trying to make it easier with their online policies. Their greed and paranoia starts to shine through a little bit too much for my taste.
I've found myself a new money sink. And with all the repainting I'm planning to do, a time sink too...
