Ever listen to a bands music after they've been around a bit and thought to yourself "What the feth are they thinking"?,sure you have.
But what about bands that have gone in directions with their music that has simply made your jaw drop ,how about that?
I'd be interested in hearing about my fellow dakkites experinces with "What the feth are they thinking" concerning musicians/bands.
I'll start the ball rolling with this little diddy,by a British band called Skrewdriver,it's off their first album "All Skrewd up" released way back in 1978,nice song,catchy...the problem is after this album was released they all became Nazis, joined the National Front and started playing "White Power" music.
Well off we go...

I had a mate who used to play Skrewdriver songs over the tannoy system at the guitar shop he worked at.
Just to shake things up a bit.
He'd wait until his boss (who has a shaven head) was standing at the counter - he'd then walk up next to him, slip the CD in the player, and walk off laughing as everyone in the shop turned to look at his boss with horror, standing there looking like he ran a white-power guitar shop!

Actually there was a fairly heavy Nazi theme running through that whole shop, come to think of it. There was this old Guitar repairman who worked there, who had a Nazi train-set. Seriously, he made a tiny concentration camp!
I waited 3 years between Justice and the Black Album, which was rather disappointing. Then they came out with "Load" and they were wearing fun fur and had eye-liner on. So much for the Oakland tough metal guy personnas.
Ozzy mid 80s looking like a fat cross driving truck driver in a bumble bee outfit. 'Shot in the Dark'...seriously?
The Rolling Stones are one of the most divisive bands out there. People with love them or hate them. Their early stuff is good, but wow do they suck now.

I gak you not.
What a weird place.
I think I'd have had to go guitar shopping elsewere..but then again I tend to gravitate towards crazy people ,so ya never know
@ Khornholio.
Yes.Metallica definatly belongs on this list,Lars is on the top of my "people I'd like to set on fire" list.
As for Ozzy in the late 80's,I thought he looked like Dr.Ruth gone crazy, but hell, the mans snorted everything except ajax so it's understandable.

@Dogma - To be fair, Chris Cornell WAS fething awesome in Soundgarden. Audioslave just suck ball. Soundgarden fans are just as disappointed at how poop Audioslave are, as RATM fans.
He wouldn't get the 'garden back together, but he WOULD join THAT? What's THAT about?

Oasis. First album was interesting, the first time you listened to it. Then you realised it was not in fact the Beatles, and instead just some arseholes from Manchester.
And to this day, Liam is still a cock!
Fed up of Scalpers? But still want your Exclusives? Why not join us?

Agreed. I like Soundgarden, and I loved RATM, so the collaborative effort they put forth was most distressing. The only exception being that one song featured in Collateral, the name of which I cannot remember.
Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

I saw Soundgarden open for Guns & Roses many years ago,and IMO Soundgarden blew G&R away,Chris Cornell was incredible, but yea...Audioslave is pretty much a bucket of warm gak.

Pendulum. Went from this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFsQyGIZeAA ...hardcore drum and bass with thoughtful production unreliant on vocals. To this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc_SghUVYTk ...mainstream tat designed so they could sell more records. It's worse aswell, since the whole genre seemed to follow them; no more eps, barely any white labels, every song has vocals. And on the grave of DnB it shall be written 'Sold out!'
Another interesting thing about that album is that the cover was designed by Hipgnosis - just HOW was that record not awesome, given the various factors?
Automatically Appended Next Post: @FITZZ - You bugger! I'm so jealous - I never got to see Soundgarden. That would have been just after 'Ultramega OK' too, IIRC. Wow.

Scattered influence. You've got two excellent musicians in Morello and Cornell; each pulling the band in their respective directions. It really felt like they just pushed each others' musical sensibilities together without any regard for synthesis.

I was a great fan of their early albums, God's Own Medicine, Children, Carved in Sand. Then they got all 'poppy' and tried to become more mainstream with the album 'Masque'. I saw 'like a child again' on top of the pops tv show once, frowned and never bought an album of theirs again. I understand they continued to make 3 or 4 more albums and never sold to the success of their earlier work.
Sometimes it really ain't broke till you try to fix it.

I'm still trying to understand how ringos thumb & Albys bum have migrated to this thread...perhaps if I was drunk or high or both I could figure it out..
