The Lord Will Travel in the Land Raider with the Khorne Bezerkers and will be an all round assault unit while the raider provides long range anti tank.es

The Thousand sons will Walk up the field as there is no point in cover and make use of being able to move and fire 24 inches

The space marines will hold objectives or provide anti everything.

The defiler will kill whatever it can get its big lobster claws on

The vindicator will shoot the face of of whatever.

This is my first list and i currently only have the sons and the lord but i plan to get a battleforce to fill up everything other than the heavy support.

Save the money on the battle force and get a renegade strike force instead(cheaper in the long run and gives you all 3 heavies)

List looks steady I actually just wrote up a list based on the renegade strike force(you dun inspired me)

only 3 vehicles is not going to go too far expect to lose 1 per turn (maybe take 2 turns for the 'raider).

AP3 bolters are very Nice, but the S+P will limit your effective range a bit.

how are the Chosen and base marines going to get within Melta range?

For the 1500 point list i was the chosen have a rhino and the base marines will hold objectives but now you mention it they cant even have two meltas unless 10 are present so maybe a swap for a autocannon and that needs 10 or more so maybe drop a son

Chaos lord is ok, add a combi flamer for BBQ'ing before assaulting.

Chosen are ok.

Thousand sons are gak. They still need a transport and cost the earth.

Chaos marines are messed up. They have no transport so that meltagun won't be in range and the autocannon cannot move and shoot. I would take dual special weaps and pop them in a transport.

Single vindicator and defiler are easy targets, take in pairs for unit redundancy.

I agree with everything but:
The chosen; drop the Asp Champ, he adds an extra basic attack to the squad for 15 points, but the squad are tank hunters.

I'd drop the meltabombs on the 1k-sons sorcerer

who is riding in your Land raider? bezerkers or CSM+Lord?

Good spotting Kel! I didn't even notice the chosen had a champ. Champs are waste if don't take wargear. 15 points for a extra attack - lol! Yeah, right!

Chaos lord is great but could get some terminators to back him up as his bodyguard

Bezerkers are going with the lord in the land raider.

Love the sons as they look cool and there is no reason to put them in cover and 4/5 army's i vs regularly are space marine or space marine variants

The marines will stay near an objective and the melta is just in case a land raider drives up or rhino.

And if i take two vindicators i lose awesome close combat ability

And two defilers mean no answer to termies at range or more armored vehicles

Melta bombs si to give them some hope against vehicles

Will ditch champion and i wonder why ive never seen chosen in any lists before five melta's or plasma guns is ridiculous
I mean people spam so many melta vets for three

Lack of Chosen because:
If they are low model count, they are east to kill.
If they are high model count, they are eating up too much points.
If they are in the middle, I guess they are just right, but they lack scoring and IMO infiltrating and outflanking are gimmicky.

So...special weapons are nice, but troops are the backbone and CSM are just so economical for what you get.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

True, but for the points, it is possible to take something which is more likely to survive and take on other targets in later rounds, yet still has a relatively good chance of popping that LR.

I am at work and so don't have my codex on me at the moment to look at points costs, but Sanctjud is correct, if you want a throw away unit just to kill a LR, you don't want to pay for 5 chosen, 4 meltas and a champ.

Off the top of my head I think you can get a decent sized PM squad with x2 meltas and a rhino for 180ish points. They will last a lot longer as they are T4(5), with FNP, so not only can they pop tanks, but they can hold up infantry etc as well with relatively little risk of loosing models.

Edit: please note, I am not saying that you should not take them, just following up on reasons why they are not commonly seen in lists.

Take care to note that your regular CSM squad doesn't have 10 guys in it, so you can't take the heavy or second special weapon option.

Also, you might want to try stuffing that Land Raider full of Bezerkers and and cramming those into your enemies face. It is true that the land raider can play the role of a long range heavy weapons tank with transport capability, but I prefer to think of them as heavily armed transports designed to deliver your ultimate weapon (CC troops and terminators) to the front lines.

At the very least try to find the points to put a few squads into rhinos. Especially those poor Beserkers. There are only seven of them, and most of the armies that the will be most effective against (Tau, Guard, etc.) will be able to blast seven guys off the table without breaking a sweat. If you put a few squads in transports then not only can they generally move faster and respond to threats better, but it can become more difficult for your enemy to isolate your CC squad and gun them down.

Also, you might want to think up some ways to put some more long range firepower in your list. You only have two guns that can shoot more that 24 inches. Your Land Raider has it's lascannons, your Defiler has a battle cannon, and you have an illegal autocannon. And if you plan on fleeting your Defiler into enemy lines and wreaking face with a heavy flamer and crab claws (which does work nicely, I'm not being down on that particular idea, I'm just pointing something out) then that leaves you with only 1-2 twin linked lascannon shots to reach out and touch someone. And you are spending 220 points to get those two shots.

A pack of Devastators with missile launchers or some Obliterators would be nice. Rhinos (again) will give your troop squads more reach, and can be used to re-deploy them quickly. Swapping the Vindi out for a second, shooty defiler would be nice because not only would it add nice templatey goodness to your shooting phase, but then your opponent would have to decide whether to shoot the battlecannon that is taking chunks out of his line, or the DCC and heavy flamer that is about to wreak his face.

Or you could mech up entirely and compensate for the fact that you can't reach him with your guns by driving a wall of metal boxes at his face. The downside to this is that you lose basically a whole turn moving up the table (but in my mind that beats the crap out of two turns walking up the table) to get into range.

Just some ideas, hope some of them help.
