Been wondering about Warhammer online. What's it like? any good now that it's been out a while, or just a pvp based wow clone?

is it like you level up in "safe" areas and then go fight each other out in no mans land kinda like old DAOC, or more like a wow pvp server in stranglethorn vale where you get ganked left and right while you're out questing? or is it all PVP and you level up by killing other players?

Its a great game! Not original but if you like WOW and Warhammer lore you will love this game. They are offering free trials on the website so you can decide if you like it without a $ commit

The problem with the trial is that it only lets you go to level 10, keeping you in teir 1, the worst part of the game. It isn't awful, but you really need to experience a keep assault/defense to understand the game. I really enjoyed my time playing it but there were two many bugs (on both sides) for me to continue.

IF you played DAoC, WAR is more like DAoC 2.

There are PvP arenas you queue up for, but there's also NMLs where you can get ganked in addition to the RvR sieges and such.

If someone is high enough, I suppose they could run around in the lower level "safe" areas killing other players, but I don't see a point, as there wouldn't be anyone high enough to give them good XP(especially since the Arenas would give much better XP just for playing in it, win or lose).

I tried it last night, only played it for about an hour but I just got bored and quit. I made a witch hunter, seemed kinda cool at first but I dunno I think it's the graphic style or how stiff the characters seemed. I guess I found WOW to just be much more "immersive" than this was.

oh well, maybe the 40k rpg will be better

Well they have announced the 40k MMO at E3 this year so lets hope that will be better.
Here is the link to the main site with very little information but it has been said in interviews that it is slated for 2012

Most servers you can't go into the RvR areas below your tier i.e. level 30~40 can't go into the RvR areas for 1-29. There are a few servers for the insane that allow people to RvR anywhere anytime.

Game was actually pretty fun, leveling through PVP was great, but when I played at release tanks were overly hard to kill, apparently that changed when 3/4 of players rolled slayers or choppas and there's so much damage being thrown around now there's no use in being a tank.

at high levels it got boring, when players figured out that you got more realm points for attacking and taking a keep than defending them, and everyone stopped defending keeps, it got stupid, really stupid.

when high levels go down to low level areas they turn into chickens, guards deep in enemy main bases instakill you so you can't murder newbies.
