Hi all,
My post is twofold. I would like to get an idea of what people think of the wings I used to create my Shrike, and in addition, I would appreciate if someone could help me discern what colors are used in the paint job. I bought this fellow and several of his broodmates in an auction a few months ago in preparation for the new codex. They came painted in a scheme I like very much, but I'm not sure how to replicate. I'm colorblind so it's not always an easy task. So far all I have actually done to them is glue on legs and find wings that looked (I think) good on them. Honestly at this point I'm kicking around the idea of taking off their legs and letting them be exclusively fliers, but that's still up in the air. Here are the pictures:

Shrike as in Kayvaan? It might just be my misinformation but me thinks you are doing an interesting army.
In my limited 'nid experience it looks really good... Very "I'm gonna stomp on your chest." killy type of pose.

Either take off the legs, or sculpt new ones that are less beefy?
Otherwise, looks good to me!

I dunno about that pose. It looks too upright until the bottom half.

Nope, they're just taken as an upgrade to the Hive Tyrant and for flying warriors they have their own unit choice in the Fast Attack section as Tyranid Shrikes.

2,000pts Empire of Quatar - Tomb Kings W-3 . . D-1 . . L-6

They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear.

@Shadow Nugz: Shrike is the new name for Tyranid Warriors with wings. They're a fast attack choice.
@Nightwatch & anooci: I tend to agree with you two here. I was hoping to go for a "gliding down inches from the ground" look, but I think all I really accomplished was a "turned the legs 90 degrees" look

I might be wrong but looks like you've at least got bubonic brown ( or equivalent ) on the main body. Nice shrike conversion indeed. Make the paint on the wings give it a membranous look to it. Also I personally would think it would look better with the legs being replaced with slightly more vestigial ones. Like the mid limbs hormgaunts have.

Interesting... according to the codex entry under Wings, "The forelimbs of some Tyranid organisms are in fact leathery wings..." Given that 'Nids are six-limbed, this should preclude the use of two sets of weapons + wings. Looks like the hive is spawning spiders nowadays in addition to regular "bugs".
More likely Robin Cruddace just couldn't be bothered with continuity.

Their wings should actually be like Gargoyles.
If we look at the gargoyle models and the fact that the wings biomorph says it's actually the forelimbs of models, the model you have should replace...
-Scything Talons for the Wings.
-The Rending Claws should be replaced with the displaced Scything Talons.
-Get rid of the legs and replace with the displaced Rending Claws.
Thats how it should technically be in my opinion but that might look too stupid, so just keep it as is until they come out with a model (if ever)

If I went in any direction with these, it would probably be to remove the legs and GS over the hole. I imagine any model developed will resemble the gargoyles, and if I was doing them from scratch, I'd definitely consider how you have them above.

I did some winged warriors last year, and first thing: your wings are great were did you get those?!
For the leg I re-positioned them in the front direction as if the warrior was ready to land :
I'm not sure about the "flyers only" shrikes, but if you wish to make them so, just replace them with scything talons.

The wings came from Troll Forged Miniature @ 2.50 USD for a pair. Look under the Armiture section under their Extras. I highly recommend them based on the entire experience. They're metal only, but thin enough to where I bet you could bend them into whatever pose you wanted.

The wings positioning in one-arm-slot was alwais a simply material limitations. In terms of rules each flying tyranid has alwais the possibility to take the same weapons number option as the infantry similar.
A very good-looking solution is the one proposed by Forgeworld.
Placing the wings in the upper slot, the scyting talons into the leg's slots and a shoot-weapon or secondary CC weapon in the middle.
I can't open the Forgeworld site now so I don't have link to give but take a fast look in the tyranid section, find the Warrior Wings and clic for the pictures of the item.
The latest examples are imho the best solution I see 'til now.
Obviously you can re-build the same concept whit any wings available..

Tyranids with wings do only have three sets of limbs still. Forgeworld makes tyranid warrior wings, and they show them in two ways: wings replacing scything talons and wings where talons go, talons where weapons go, weapons where legs go. Link: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/wtw.htm

1.) I am in the 6 limb-Tyranid fraction, so adding wings as the 4th pair of limbs is unfluffy to me. Other people may see it differently.
2.) 2 Wings allow for 4 weapon limbs as the legs can be made into scything talons etc . There are also other solutions. BTW the FW wings are fantastic.
3.) The body is camo green with Badab Black washed over. The carapace might be Bubonic Brown.

Unfortunately the current Nid codex has some units, Shrikes as an example, with six legs and a set of wings as well. The conversion the OP did is what the codex says to do. So Nids fleets have spiders now. The irony is that spiders are supposed to eat bugs not be bugs.

For my shrikes, I used a synthesis of Gargoyle and Genestealer bits, with Warrior heads. Sorry, dont have pics.
Anyways, I solved the problem with the feet. their legs end in Stealer rending claws, with the two arm slots occupied by Gargoyle wings and Spinefists.
Construction: Take a genestealer body and separate the pelvis from torso. stick a sprue fragment between the two to extend the waist, then greenstuff around it. reoposition one leg and cut off the feet. cut off the ball on a rending claw, and attatch it to the leg stump. cut off and rotate the hand. cut off the gargyle's tail, and stick it on the genestealer pelvis. Add a warrior head, and cut the wings a bit before sticking them on.
gives them a perchy, clutchy look, and makes the 5+ save obvious.
I'm running Rending Claw Adrenal Gland Spinfist shrikes. Generalist assault unit. hope they work properly.
