I have a box full [200+] of Marvel/DC comics from about 20 years ago, all are un-opened and un-read and have been stored in a dry loft for most of that time so should be in perfect condition. I haven't retrieved them yet but if I remember correctly they are not regular titles but things like Spiderman 2050 [?] and that ilk.

Obviously eBay has made a market for most 2nd hand things, but would there be genuine interest from collectors or even comic shops for comics of this age?

Somewhere in south-central England.

Depends on the exact title, edition number and condition.

There are professional comic appraisal guides, however the easiest thing would be to take the whole lot to a specialist comic shop and ask them for a valuation.

If you sell them to the shop you won't get as much as if you sell them on eBay yourself. It will be a lot less hassle though.

A reputable shop should give you a fair value for them based on the point they have to resell them at a profit.

Yes, try getting in contact with local comic stores, they often will buy complete collections in one go.

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

This is a good place to start

http://www.comicspriceguide.com/

They have just about every comic out there and a "guide" to it's market value. Just remember that guide is just that, a guide. Unless you have something extremely rare and/or in pristine condition, you won't get guide in this economy. The market is pretty much dead for anything modern, (last 20 30 years) at the moment.

However, it would be a good thing to catalogue all of your stuff, and at least get an idea of what you have, and what grade(condition) they are. Then, when the market heats up again, maybe 5 to 10 years you will be ready to sell.

Unless you are just looking to unload your stuff, then you probably won't even get original price for them. Unless they are high grade.

Some good sites to check here, but to save you time, from the 80-current they will be worth less than a buck each. There will be few exceptions. I have comics from the 60 on up. I have a spiderman with John Belushi (Saturday Night Live) that is worth 2 or 3 bucks. The rest of the issues around it are worth about .65 cents a piece. Comics had a hard time around that era due to a book called "Seduction of the Innocent" and the ACCA (American Comic Code Authority).

Your comics are a bit later though....In the 90's was a HUGE explosion of utter crap, the comics had high values upon release (Spawn #1, Death of Superman for instance) and over a couple years are cheaper than 5 bucks.

Comic stores may buy the box SUPER cheap since about 98% of the comics will do nothing but sit in a box waiting for someone to buy a box cheap. Same as buying Magic the Gathering cards from the past 5-10 years.

I do hope you have some notable comics in there, it is just unlikely do to the reasons stated above.

Just a side note if you have Thanos Quest # 2 by Ron Lim, let me know I want a crack at it to complete my set. That set may be one of the exceptions of worth more than a few dollars. Also if you have them there are some fun reads, Incredible hulk by Cam Smith and Gary Frank was a immensely fun run. Grasping straws here.....nostalgia kicking in....

(Spiderman 2099 was a cool concept, as was Nomad but it fell apart as did many comics in that era.)

What they said about going to a specialist comic shop and get them to look at it.

Really, though, that is near the point where overproduction for the collector market had kicked in.

Its simple: overspecialize and you breed in weakness. It's slow death.

Generally no. Ebay is just too efficient and gives any potential collector access to just about any back issue at rock bottom prices.

The explosion in TPB means just about anything any large number of people want is back in print on better paper with better printing.

To make things worse there are the torrents. Those evil, evil torrents.

So with few people buying to read you'll only get serious cash for rare issues of popular titles.

Cheers for the advice fellas.

I didn't think that I would get much for them (even though I can guarentee that they still have the original static in them - they are that un-read!) but if I got a little bit of cash for them then it would sit better in my daughters piggy bank that it would in the loft.

I have never really got into Marvel/DC so there is no reason for me to store them. Why look across the pond when JD rules the roost here!

@J-Roc77 - long shot, but i'll pick them up at the weekend and take a look for you.
