The Ontos was a light anti-tank vehicle used for fire support during the Vietnam War.
The key feature is the six parallel mounted guns -- this allowed the crew to make several attacks quickly then retreat in order to reload.
If you find 1/35 vehicles too large for 40K, the good thing about the Ontos is its fairly small dimensions which make it visually more compatible with the standard GW kits.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

What an absolutely brilliant looking piece of gear... but I'd hate to be down-range when it fired!
I know Wiki has it's faults, but this is a good article on an armoured vehicle that I (for one) had never heard of.

I'm still waiting on them to do a bloody M22 Locust in 1/35.
And if anyone's looking for an armored car stand-in for a Chimera...look up "Trumpeter 1/35 M1117 Guardian ASV".

Wow, ugly.
I looks like one of those GIJOE vehicles, all it needs is a driver in a red uniform and some bright decals.

Bite your tongue, heathen! The Ontos is amazing One of my relatives served in Vietnam as a driver on an Ontos and had nothing but praise for what he called "The most ridiculous piece of hardware in the jungle, next to that damn Hamburger Helper(six ton truck with 4x Browning 50 caliber HMGs mounted in a traversing turret)."
But yeah. It was one of the weirder looking vehicles of the war. But the Sheridan was no winner either.

PLEASE post pics (with scale shots next to standard 28mm heroic models!) when you've got them ready!
A nice find indeed!

The thing to remember about the Ontos was that it was designed to take on Soviet tanks in case of a major breakthrough in Germany.
Its only real deployment, however, was in Vietnam where they then realized "Hey. We can shoot buildings full of bad guys with this! AWESOME!".
One of the coolest parts? It had 4x .50 caliber 'spotting' rifles mounted along each recoilless rifles' side. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, weird. It's not listed on Squadron's site. Hrmh.
