so almost a week ago I was able to get a friend of mine to let me paint his wood elf army... I was going to
keep him updated via facebook but I discovered this wonderful website and decided I would use this instead
and get a whole community's input instead of just one guys
however instead of working on it I decided to spend the past few days banging my head against
the wall since I don't have much experience working with Warhammer Fantasy figures and I couldn't
decide on the color scheme until a day ago.

-=contents of the army=-
1 box of Wood elf battalion containing...
24 x Glade Guards (plus some... I seem to looking at 30~35 of them tough.... with 2 musicians and 2 standard banners)
8 x Glade Riders
12 x Dryads
12 x War Dancers
15 x Eternal Guards
5 x War Hawk Riders (might be 6... XP)

-=color schemes=-
Glade Guards: Rose like, dark red armor and green cloth

Figure 1. Sample Model work in progress, still gotta work on leather bits, ink washing, and redoing the hair... damn hair... I miss

Figure 2. Maybe string some of the bows that are being pulled, still not sure if it will be worth it but I'll think about it more after painting the rest of this figure

Glade Riders: Same as Glade Guards
Dryads: looks at a tree...
War Dancers: Anime like pink haired chicks with blue tatoos?? why not??
Eternal Guards: winter like, light blue, light gray, white
War Hawk Riders: .....

now the fun work of cleaning up all those parting lines on them figures and priming.

Ireally like the scheme can't wait to see more done, the string on the bow is brilliant! Keep them coming!

As the friend who loaned the models for painting, I gotta say what you've done so far is great. Also I'm a HUGE fan of the war dancer idea. at least in theory

You're doing this for free? You're a good friend

I play wood elves, and I'd recommend more of a brown on that first test model, rather than the reddish color that I'm seeing in some places. Perhaps it's just the lighting or the color setting on the camera, and it really is brown, but I like a nice warm brown on my woodies... again, thinking tree

I love the strung bow! I play an all "forest spirit" army (bascially the tree units) with no bows because I hate the look of unstrung bows. If I was able to string them, I might actually field some

Looking great so far! Thanks for joining and posting this up!

Update

Glade Guard
Quickly cleaned up most of the parting lines on each figure and got all but 10 of them primed. I felt that the level of detail for these figures were quite impressive, although there are some areas that could improve. On many of the hands holding the bows the fingers don’t seem to line up correctly where the parting line runs through, I’ve seen similar problems with 40k imp guards. Another gripe is how the heads connect to the torso; personally I prefer the rounded joints such as those on most 40k figures, can’t say I’m a big fan of this flat surface used on the glade guards. Right now my goal is to have all the primed glade guards done by Friday, also planning on another update tomorrow

Figure 3. the glade guards still being worked on.

Figure 4. the glade guard with the strung bow
The head had to be removed so that I wasn’t constantly painting the string…

thanks for the comments!!
all right here's today's ( or tonight) update
2 more days left till my goal of finishing the primed glade guards, so far I've almost got 5 done

Figure 5. current situation as of before lunch... or half a day ago?

and yup that was Scab red on that test model. Decided to continue with the red and tried highlighting
it with light red/ pink, although I may tryout a dozen or so with a shade of brown instead of the crimson

Figure 6 update on the trial figure... starting to wonder why I'm bothering to label the photos like this....

and here's a look at a figure I decided to try arming with an arrow, unsure if this was worth sanding down a toothpick.
I have decided that all bows will be strung on the glade guards, turns out it's easier to paint the figure then string the bow.
currently working on better stringing method.

imho would agree to the change of the crimson

the other colours harmonise really well, but the crimson pink is not sitting in with them- it has a totally different quality
Though it does work against the inside of the cloak, against the lighter greens it is less effective
tbh not sure that any red would be my choice, but that is personal taste

hmm... I seemed to have forgotten to keep working on this while the weather wise nice last week.... and the week before and..... um...
hey it's more fun to work on resin and bondo in the sun after a long winter ok?
any way here's the update on the situation!!

10 more glade guards to complete and they'll be done !!! yeagh!!!
(kinda gett'n sick of these guys)
most of the ones that I'm done painting just need their heads glues on.

lol still haven't finished stringing all the bows!

I also started working on the glade riders!!
for the longest time I felt that horses are super hard to do but after lurk'n through the forums here
I kinda realized that that it's not as difficult as long as I'm working on it and not gazing at them complaining.

click on photo for larger view!!

I also started work'n on a warhawk rider
temped to swap that hawk out with this F-16 model I have...
but I'm sure saru wouldn't like that and wood elf using a fighter jet??? don't sound right do it?
also I've got the eternal guards and dryads primed.
I was about to prime the wardancers when I realized that most of them are male....
male wardancers =/= pink hair anime girls.... which means....
a) break out the gs or
b) deal with it so what their dudes give 'em the red hair but paint part of their face blue. FREEEEAAGHHH DOMMM

well that's it for now, until I get around to updating again.
comments are welcom as usual, especially criticism

UPDATE (click on thumbnail for larger pic, thumbnail should only be 100pix wide)
The bows were have been finished getting strung for all the
Glade Guards that were finished painted in the update last week.

As of tonight the War Dancers have been finished.
I decided to give half of them blue hair and the rest red or pink.
Some have blue body paint/tatau on them, in the next few days
I may choose to add some to those war dancers that do not, but
for now they are done. bellow are some pics of the dancers.

Now with the War Dancers done I've started working on the Eternal
Guards now, continuing with the winter theme. Here's a sample one.

Not much has been done with the Glade Riders since last week, although
the standard bearer has gotten a magnet installed so the arm is detachable.

-hope to have another update tomorrow night
