Im looking into getting Stormboyz for my Deff Rider Warband. My question is, are they worth it? I can only get five for $25 bucks, so I want to make sure, before I buy something thats useless to me. Any thoughts?

Im working on a Lighting assault horde hybrid army, Basicly all my fast units (deffkoptas,warbikers ect.) would launch at the enemy and get into close combat, to keep those units from shooting my guys on foot (Nobz,Boyz, ect.) which will use the distraction to get in closer and bring the pain.

Your general plan sounds fine. I have done the same thing with a few stormboyz. I have always really liked useing them in really any army list. I mean they are boyz that get to move 12. Whats not to love?

Im mainly asking how effective they can be and how many should I have for a descent sized mob. I know they can Deepstrike and they can move 12 inches (That and becuase Orks with rokkits strapped to their backs is hilarious) I guess im more concerned with their rokkits packs explodeing due to the Rokkit pack special rule.

Put Zagstruk with them and you have a hard hitting force. However, pack alot of Stormboyz, because with Zagstruk there will be casualties, and alot of them if your morale checks do not side with you as he is essentially a Ork Kommissar =p
As for Rokkits exploding, relax and enjoy the show. I always said that with Orks it is more how fun you play than how effective you play. Just picture that Stormboy going boom in your head and you will be laughing the rest of the game.

I disagree.
Zag has TWO tricks.
1) You can assault when you deepstrike
2) I4 PK on the first turn of an assault if HE is assaulting.
Number 1 is nice, if you don't deepstrike horribly
Number 2 is WAY overrated, as he's just throwing rocks and hitting with sticks for the rest of the assault.
IMO, get a tricked out PK Nob for less points.
As for quantity... I would honestly not field them in units of less than 15 or 16. Preferably, the full 20 ( IMO). You want to be able to survive any shooting they're going to take before they can get into HtH.
As for the price... you could save a TON of money by buying online. Typical online pricing (MiniatureMarket or Warstore) would be $20 a box.

I'm not a fan of Stormboyz myself. Yes, they move 12 +d6 inches per turn (+d6 run if you really want to), but at the end of the day, they are just double-costed slugga boyz and work out about the same as a comparably equipped trukk mob. 20 boyz are hard to hide, so they usually get shot up as they approach, and they can only assault out of deepstrike with Zaggstrukk (and this still requires a fairly precise deepstrike unless you WAAAGH on the turn they arrive). Overall, I prefer the utility of deffkoptas and rokkit buggies, not to mention not having to buy stormboyz at ~$5 each.
I love the fluff of stormboyz and they are fun to visualize, but if you're looking for effectiveness, I can't say I'd throw my hat into that ring.

Oddly enough, Stormboyz became much better with this edition of the codex. They are faster, and cheeper than they used to be. Many people thought they would be the unit to have, then they read the rest of the codex.
I personaly like Stormboyz, but I also like to try things that aren't always considered to be as good. I've had some success with them.

I would have to agree with the trukk guy in my mind a trukk would be a better buy as it's closer to your theme and accomplishes nearly the same thing.

Stormboyz can work in a horde list like you describe if you send them at a flank. If you send them into the middle of your opponent's they will die before they really get to do anything. For this role here is what you want or thereabout:
1k: 1 group of 20
1500-1850: 2 groups of 20
2k+: 3 groups of 20
If you have other maxed out fast choices like warbikers then 1 maxed stormboyz mob and 1 maxed warbiker mob can work. This is what I've found will survive to hit and hit again until the rest of the horde shows up for support.
The thing that makes Zagstruk nice isn't his deepstrike assault (way too risky) or his I4 PK (strikes before almost nothing that you want to kill with a PK), it's his ability to make your stormboyz better than fearless. A bosspole gives you a morale reroll at leadership 7 or worse and you fail the save 5/6 times, Zagstruk auto-passes a failed morale save and instead of losing a boy 5/6 times, it's 6/6, totally worth it. If you lose assault and are below 11 models, that 1 dead boy would be much less than if you lost combat badly and were fearless due to no retreat! casualties.

I take minimum sized unit + nob with powerklaw. It's dirt cheap and easy to hide, and extremely good at punching tanks.
