This is sort of a weird thing to ask, but who cares. Anyway, I paint my models as the torso, head and legs together. Then I paint the arms and backpack separately and glue them to the torso. This is because (as most of you know) it's really hard to paint a model if their arms are covering the chest. I just finished painting a model's torso, legs, and head, and I think this is my best painted model yet, and now I don't want to attach the big bulky flamer arms which obscure so many of the details I worked so hard on painting. So do any of you feel the same way as me?

Clearly a marine player. Yes, I suppose we could feel the same way. That's why you glue it together first, so you don't have to worry about obscuring details!

I would have to agree with Nightwatch, though if it were for a painting comp. I would keep doing it the way you do... Every little detail counts

I usually put everything together except the weapon if it's one that goes across the chest. But my painting is distinctly average anyway.

I just really like the painting aspect of the game so I try to paint every part of the model that I can. Anyone else feel the same way? And yes, I do play marines (Dark Angels, duh).

Only with certain models, when painting 100+ boyz.. finer details are LOW on my prioities. Warboss, special characters, and vehicles all get special attention.

I'm IRISH!

I play CSM and have the same problem, but you should just glue everything together first + it doesn't take as long to paint them then

^^Yeah, I know what you mean. Well ok, I guess I don't actually know, but I get what you're saying. I am happy to say that I have never had to paint 100 boyz. Thats why, IMO, painting orks are so tedious. Huge mobs= lots of stress, I would guess. *humming* lots of stress, I would guessss, lots of stress, I would guessss *humming*

^But the thing is is that I really like painting so I want to get as much out of each model as possible, which means painting every detail.

Perhaps think about converting the arms so that rather than across the chest they leave it open? I've used a few CSM bolter arms (straight out or bent at the elbow but not across the body) with bolters and a melta and it doesn't look too bad. Not sure how it would look with a heavy flamer though.

Can I suggest skipping forward 10 years to the age where you don't really care about what people say on the internet. Studies show that it decreases your anger about life in general by 37%. - Flashman

i paint in pieces as well, and don't really sweat it if some of the detail is covered by arms...
if people pic up my mini to take a close look, they will see some hidden gems...
if they are just looking from far away, the killer paintjob draws 'em in closer...
just enjoy the painting journey for what it is...

I'm kind of like that except a little bit more extreme. I paint every part individually so i can get every tiny detail in first before putting it together. It's a lot easier on stress and on days you have a tight schedule you can still get something painted and feel accomplished.

^So you mean like paint the legs, paint both halves of the torso, paint the head, paint the arms, paint the weapons? Wow, that seems like it would take a LONG time.
