Between being a big fan of the concept that Orks can loot anything and sitting in a desert bored out of my mind. So of the gamers around here came up with the following idea for Ork Looted Vehicles.
Orks will be able to loot any vehicle out of any codex at the cost listed in the codex (ex. Looted Space Marine Land Raider - 250 points)
Looted modifications.
1) The vehicle loses 4 AV that can be divided between any of the 4 facings of the vehicle but max lose of 2 AV per side. (ex. Looted Space Marine Land Raider now Front - 14, Right Side - 12, Left Side - 14, Rear - 12)
2) On a roll to hit of a 1, the weapon explodes or something just as cool, and the vehicle then takes a hit from that weapon (ex. Looted Space Marine Land Raider fires LasCannon and a 1 is rolled so the Land Raider now takes a S9 AP2 hit to the side that the weapon is mounted on)
Meant for just some Ork vehicles in some friendly home games. What do you all think.

Sounds reasonable and fun. However I think you need to reduce vehicle BS to at least gretchin level. Maybe the AV-loss is too much to keep in mind, unless the modelling is very clear. Reduced side and rear AV by 1 might be easier to handle.
The best part is that this makes for some awesome conversions!

One concern...what happens if the weapon is mounted on the top?
Otherwise, I like it. Similar to the previous looting rules, which really gave a lot more variety to the whole thing.

Looted Tank:
Select any model with a AV from any other codex. It may be taken as a Heavy Support choice.
-1 Side and Rear to a minimum of 9
BS2
Any Fast vehicle moving over 12" must take a difficult terrian test.
Any Skimmer must take a difficult terrian test for every 6" moved.
Before firing any weapon, roll a D6. On a 2+, continue as normal. On a 1, resolve the weapons fire (as if it had all hit) agaist the armour facing the weapon is mounted on (top/turret=side). The damage does not take effect until the end of the shooting phase (so you can fire all weapons even if you stun yourself). Stuns/Shakes last until the end of your next turn. Imob/Wep Des cannot be repaired until next turn.
Opions may be taken from the Ork codex (as Battlewagon, not weapons) and the codex the model was looted from. It may also take 0-3 Pintle Mounted Big Shootas for 10p. One may be upgraded to a Pintel Mounted Rokkit Launcher for an extra 5 points.
Any closed topped model with a transport capacity may choose to increase it by 50%, but becomes open topped.

I would porbably use something close to the previous edition Ork Codex.
The BS changes to 2, armor values remain the same, and it can take Ork
vehicle upgrades. Anything with Machine Spirit would have to lose that
special ability, as a Land Raider's Machine Spirit would never let a
smelly Ork close. So the Orks would have to disable that. I suppose
they could replace it with a Squig or something, though (more on that in
a minute). I would povide the following vehicle choice suggestions as
well.
IG: Any vehicle
SM: Any vehicle, except dreadnoughts (too difficult to capture in
usable condition; during the rebuild it would be more Ork than human).
Tau: Any vehicle. Tau skimmers lose the skimmer ability
Eldar: Any vehicle, except Wraithlords. Eldar Skimmers lose skimmer
ability and 1 AV on all sides. Eldar tech is more arcane than
mechanical and only seems to work right for Eldar.
Dark Eldar: Why? Maybe raiders... Probably lose skimmer for same
reason as Eldar.
Necrons: Nothing. Nothing intact enough to salvage after a battle.
Necron weapons only work for Necrons.
Additional rules:
I would apply the ramshackle rule from the latest Ork Trukk Codex entry.
May replace any exiting weapon with Skorcha or Big Shoota for free.
May take additional 2 Shoota or Skorcha for +5 pts
May take any one of the following:
Kannon +20 pts
Zappgun +25 pts
Lobba +20 pts
Kill-Kannon +45 pts
Note: Kannon will decrease transport capacity by half. Kill-Kannon
will eliminate transport capacity.
Wargear options:
Boarding ramp +5 pts
Grabbin' Claw +5 pts
Wreckin' Ball +5 pts
Deffrolla +15 pts
Armor Plates +10 pts
Grot Riggers +10 pts
Red Paint Job +3 pts
New vehicle wargear:
Squig brain: +20 pts
As Machine Spirit, except WS 1.
Grot Gunners: +50 pts
WS increases to 3. However
Deffgun Sponsons: +20 points each
Maximum 4.
Big Mek's Ride: +50 pts
Gains transport capacity (even if non-existent) for Big Mek and 4
additional Orks. Can mount any of the following:
KFF +100 pts
SAG +75 pts
Any how just a few thoughts. Some of this may be overpowered, but it's
all for fun right?

I think it's not OP, its a very cool idea indeed IMO, If you would want a very pimped-out looted LR, it would be VERY espensive, 250 points + upgrades, but then any idiot with a brain would take the chaos version for 50 points less because of the lack of machine spirit.

Thanks all for the added ideas. I really hadn't thought about pimping a looted vehicle out with Ork vehicle options. But really like it.

All these ideas are good. It would be really nice to be able to go back to the old looted wagon as having the current generic one is a bit lame. I have a pretty big collection of looted wagons just threw coming across tanks no one wants any more or have become broken and it sadens me that they all have to use the same stat lines. Its a bit silly when there is a looted vindi/russ/hammerhead on the board and they all have the same stats.

I agree wholeheartedly. the new Looted Wagon rules do not really allow for enough modelling variance. While, I think they help provide balance to the game. Just another reason to play Apocalypse rules, I suppose.
One way to get around that is to convert vehicles into Battlewagons, which allows for much more variance. No two Battlewagons look the same. So, it works out. With a few changes your Looted Wagon becomes a battle wagon.

I'd be fine with the old looted wagon rules, so I agree with this. It was dumb of them to change it; it sold models! Orks had to buy IG and SM stuff!

My personal prefernce would be to simply class orky vehicles by basic type.
Fast attack
Warbike.
Warbuggy(wartrack upgrade)10/10/10 fast open topped
Transport
Trukk 10/10/10 fast open topped ramshackle
Heavy support.
Guntrukk 12/11/10 open topped.(Kannon lobba or Zapp gun instead of transport capacity.)
Tankk 12/11/10 tank (Turret mounted Boom gun or Kill kannon + hull or sponson mounted big shootas)
Battle Wagon 14/12/10 tank open topped
And use standard upgrades in current codex.
And allow players to convert ANY suitable model they wanted to fit the basic Orky vehile type.Maybe list minimum and maximum sizes , W/H/D.
As Orks scavenge and kustomise wrecked vehicles of ALL types , but replace the 'duff 'non-orky gubbins' wiv proper orky know whats.'
I dont think even the Blood Axes would use standard imperial technology without the Mek boys Konvertin it to make it safe for the boys to use.
This way ork players can 'loot' whatever vehicle takes thier fancy ,but it capabilities are described AFTER the mekboys konvert it to use proper Orky technology.

I'd be fine with this, too. Orks could use a mid-range vehicle option or two between trukks and battlewagons. The killkannon needs to come down in price or be upped in usefulness for my tastes.

I used a basilisk as a base model for my first looted wagon, but it looked to cool so i changed a bit and now use it as a krata maka, the second one i started (yesterday) used a land raider crusader as a base and i cut apart my battle wagon, but again it looked really cool so i changed it a bit more and made a start on a skull hamma.
i find that the gaurd have the best models to use as base's for looted vehicles, bar the hell hound, thats the one im workin on now and its just annoyin to convert. i really want to convert a baneblade but i dont have £60 for that and £70 for 2 battle wagons. one day maybe ill save enough though lol. ill post a few pics of my new conversions in the next few hours....or days lol.

I agree. Though I like the rules proposed, I still like the simplicity of the old rules. Use any vehicle you want, call it looted, it has to be modeled that way, and you get Ork BS.
