Hi guys, I have made some fan rules for Commissar Lords and Commissars, hence the title:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/27968745/Commissar-Lord-and-Commissars
My reasoning behind these changes:
1. First and most importantly, Commissars have lost a lot of their intensity. They used to be ridiculously bad ass and now, well, they're not.
I mean seriously, only LD9 and stubborn? Let's get real here, they deserve LD 10. They've been hyper indoctrinated into the Imperial cult.
2. Going off #1, I've given the Commissars better stats. Why? Because they're pretty much my favorite Imperial Guard character. Secondly, they kind of deserve it.
You'd think that these utter badasses would have a bit better than 1 wound, don't you? Well that's good, because they do. They still get killed pretty easily but not as easily as before. Str4 also puts them at a superhuman level-which I feel that they always had been.
2a. My favorite decision thus far was to give the Commissar Lord T3(4). This means that he is as 'tough' as an Imperial Space Marine, but he will still be instantly killed by STr6 weapons. So he's tougher than the normal human but against high strength weaponry he's going to be instantly killed where a Space Marine would not be.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

Commissars can't buy Bolt pistols? Besides that, they should be S3. I get what you're saying, but they are still humans and not jacked monsters like Bragg, Harker, or a Space Marine. Lastly, give the Commissar Lord Eternal Warrior. For a 70pt T3 model they shouldn't be getting Insta-Killed all the time. Or make them T4(3).
What the hell is T4(3)??!!?? For purposes of Instant Death they are T4, but for purposes of wounding they are Toughness 3!

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular." |

Whoops...missed the bolt pistol.
I like the T4(3). I would also really at least like to keep lords at S3(4) or something of the sort. How's that sound?

I just don't know how you would justify it. The only characters that I know of that are S3+ in the current IG Codex is Straken with his mechanical body and Harker with being ridiculously huge! While I'm sure Commissar Lords are strong in their own right, I don't know if they are Harker size or mechanically dependent like Straken.

Blah. Oh well. It just feels kind of lame. But I imagine that I'm kind of alone on that, haha.

Commissars are fine as is. They already do a great job of making sure your unit never runs away. Lord commissars could probably use a boost though, as being an IC makes them worse than a regular commissar.

I don't think it is so much that the new Commissars are bad, but that they are pretty pricey and are pretty fragile. It used to be that your Commissars would be the last men standing in a squad by default and be nasty things to deal with compared to a regular Guardsmen. Now they are even flimsier than an IG CO. Heck! They are only +1Ld better than a platoon Commander!
Oh! Give Commissar Lords a cumpulsory Power Weapon and allow Power Fists to be taken additionally, instead of having to trade in a weapon, or make them a cheaper upgrade. Sure, people will make pistol-less Lords but for 70-80pts I would expect a single T3 model to be a little more thrashier.

Could you specify Displacement Field rule?
Does it affect Lord only? Does it work on a chimera with Lord in it?
D3 is rolled for every hit? (So with 20 bolt hits - we have to roll for each?)
So I guess this makes LCommissar and all of Commissars T4(5) to T6(7) almost making him immune to Instant Deaths from shooting. Only few things (S10 isn't common), coupled with unlucky roll will make him killed in one shot. Don't think human should be tougher to IK than Space Wolf on a Puppy.

What Commissar Lords need is protection from being singled out in close combat and to no longer be worth a Kill Point. A small price break wouldn't hurt either.
Regular commissars are fine as is. They aren't super soldiers, they're not even primarily a fighting force.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

Actually, as per the rule, they would still be T3(4), it would be the strength of the weapon that changes, don't try and warp things here.
Also, how tough other army units are is of no concern to another army's except for point checking. Remember, with the Displacement Field it is not the Commissar himself who is becoming tougher, he just has a barrier. Fluff wise they are totally different things.

Oh yeah.. Must be my brain boiling from my excess stupidity..
But this still makes him (and his friends?) at least 5T for to-wound purposes. That is TOUGH for humans.
And could I get answers to other DF questions I posted?
