Alright guys Next week Im going to be getting a WHOLE bunch of woodelves, and Im really excited to have such a diverse army that has a waaaaay different playing style than dwarves. also the painting opportunities is somewhats of a turn on haha

But Ive been looking at battle reports and the like on youtube/ and other forum sites * cough cough cough* sorry I meant on Dakka lol
and I cant find anyone that has a win for the wood elf side....so Im starting to ponder if Woodelves are even able to win a match, although it is true most of them are plagued with bad rolling, but nevertheless..... I need some hope fello dakkites... can give me some hope with the wood elves.

also in case you were wondering the models Im getting are:
56 Glade guard
8 glade riders
12 dryads
Wood elf hero on foot
Waywatcher Lord
1 Warhawk rider

and yea I know I won't exactly be using the warhawk rider since I need atleastt 3.

But I think when I start building up this army, my first approach will be with more dryads since... admit it theyre awesome!!
and then more glade riders, and maybe later a treeman. is this the right way to go to get some wins? idk. you tell me

thanks for reading guys cant wait to hear ur response.

I think you've got the right idea! If you buy one more box of dryads, you'll be able to run them as 3 units of 8, which will be perfect to back up your glade guard

I'd use the warhawk rider as a noble on eagle! I wish I had one

You could also use the waywatcher lord as a noble if needed, and the hero as a mage (you'll need one for some magic defense, and to cast some treesinging).

This looks like a great group of core wood elves, with some good models to use as heroes. You can definitely get some games in with just this, but I'd get the one box of dryads soon as they'll really complement your glade guard.

You probably won't be able to use all of your glade guard, since they need to be strung out 10-wide to all fire (unless they're on a hill). A good tactic people use is either taking advantage of their range and sitting back, or moving them forward to get str 4 shots at close range! Then they can flee away from charges, and let your dryads either receive a charge, or counter-charge

I defintely think these will be a nice switch from dwarves! They should play totally different!

Look through the army list section. I think there is a pretty solid list in there by a guy named Reecius I think. It is probably back a couple of pages maybe page 3 or so. I agree with you and RiTides that dryads should be your next purchase.

I think the key to WE success is to pick your fights. You can move and shoot without penalty and move through forrests too. So float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. When you can set up a multiple unit charge than smash it home. It definitely takes some finesse, but should still be fun and amazing to look at anyway.

When the book came out, there was a great deal of hue and cry about dryads being ridiculously cheap for what you got. It's kind of amazing how, with books having moved on, they're not nearly considered so bad any more. When looked at in isolation, they are a pretty amazing buy. Good WS, S, T, awesome initiative, great base 2 A, ItP, skirmishing, fear causing, and a ward save.

So yeah, it's a good place to start!
