South Africa!!!

So as the title suggests I need help. I play IG mech and Tau, so starting a ork army so I can get into the cc action. Can some experienced ork players give me a heads up on the units that I should get and what to avoid! So as to help going to have bikers but trying to stay away from a fixed theme! Are flashgits good, and looters because the bs is kak on orks!

Any help would be thankfull.

Against Guard and Tau you really don't want to get into a fire fight with them as they will out shoot you. What you want to do is close with their armies quickly because tau and guard don't really have anything that can threaten your orks in close combat.

You probably would want to fast units such as:
Nob Bikers
Boyz in trukks
Warboss on bike
Stormboyz
Battlewagon with deff rolla
Deffkoptas

Your opponents armies would also have a good amount of armor so you need to bring anti tank.

The thing about ORks, is yes their BS is terrible. But the magic part is, the volume of fire. A squad of 30 shoota boyz will pump out 60 shots a mob. So your going to land alot of hits on average.

Rule of thumb is Lootas are better the Flash Gitz. Flash gitz are really pricey and as far as competitive games go, are usually scoffed at. Lootas shoot more, shoot farther and are stronger weapons. Im planning on building a Flash Gitz heavy army list in the future. Mainly for fun, but who knows it could really head stomp some lists.
The thing is, if you want to play competitively, that is to say a tournament player, then a fixed theme is normally the best idea. Read around these forums, youll find many really strong Ork builds. Welcome to the horde

I have to agree with the Lootas over Flash Gitz. The only thing I am tempted to try out is to put Flash Gitz in a BW and have them rolling along with the convoy. At least then you can have some heavier strength shots keeping up with your mob. Lootas need a clean LOS all the way across the board and tend to get left behind.

Still, would like to at least play around with Flash Gitz to see how they do for me.

Really, just about any ork unit can be useful in the right circumstances. What people do avoid are Big Gunz, Looted Wagons, and Flash Gitz.

Of course, anything that plays a game of chance are generally ignored as being compeititive (see SAG and wierdboy), but IMO, they help add to the fun of the game.

More importantly you should decide the following:
Am I playing for fun? or Am I playing to win?

If it's the first, pick up your codex and read through the descriptions and stats and make a list out of everything that you think is cool and/or fun, personally I run a wierdboy and occasionally zzap guns because I like the unpredictable aspect of orks, if you want flash gitz go for flash gitz with some upgrades for some fun, give them a painboy and cyborks for survivability.

If it's for winning then same applies, but you will be building around a core of units with proven effectiveness.

Just to be aware that the takkticas are useful regardless of whether you play competitive or not, and I am in no way suggesting that to use one would be to build a WAAC list.

The most important thing with orks is that you have fun, if you make a list that will win but you don't really feel OK about then you won't have fun.

What happens when you take the OK out of ORK? you're left with R, or rrrrrrr

A good core to any Orky force is a few squads of ork boyz, at least 20 boyz per squad. Get a few Nobz w/Power Klaw, and put one in each each boyz squad. If I'm fighting a small points value battle (1000 or lower), infantry (and a Warboss/Big Mek) is pretty much all I bring. Ork vehicles are easy to kill, and usually add up to a points sink in smaller battles, so I like to use footslogging boyz as a delivery system for PK Nobz, especially against cheesy Space marine lists.
You brought Meltas and Lascannons? There's no way you're stopping my green wave with THEM! WAAAAAGH! etc.

I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.
