Hey all,

I recently purchased a Black Reach set. And then quickly purchased a second, 3 Killa Kans, a Battlewagon(I think y'all see where this is going)

I now have a boatload of orkz, the majority of which are painted but there are still far too many sitting on my desk, their grey eyes glaring accusingly at me and their painted brethren.

I was asking around on forums what a good ork theme would be, and someone suggested looking at the four forces of nature. He had used water, and come up with aqua-orkz(he had a much cooler name, that I can't remember). Someone else had a large 'wind' army, and of course there were plenty of burna boy armies, but no one seemed to have earth yet. And then it hit me, orks that had killed off and looted a construction site, or mine site. I thought about giving all my orks construction helmets and maybe ripping off a few power klaws and replacing them with jackhammers, that sort of thing.

Problem is, I can't find any model with a construction helmet on, that would fit an ork, and also, i have no idea how to make molds(I plan on having at least 100 ork infantry, so I would need a lot of hats)

If anyone could direct me to a mold making tutorial, or just explain it, i would be very appreciative. Also, if you've seen a model with an older version construction hat(the kind with the lines coming down the side, like the lego ones), or if you have any ideas for vehicles for this Ork army, again, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks all,
Da Bestest Warboss

First up, great idea.

Closest I could think of is there are some 1/35 infantry kits with US WWII helmets which might fit and might pass.

Or you could use Ork helmet heads and paint them yellow. With blue suits that look like overalls I think most people would get the idea.

I like this idea alot pretty original and havent seen it done yet. Yeah you might have to do some hunting around to find something appropriate and cant help you but just wanted to say i really like the idea.

Weren't some of the gorkamorka orks miners? It's all long oop but I remember shovels and such.

Vehiclewise... you could probably find some toy backhoes or something that look decent and paint/ork them up.

Maybe small stuff like that for warbuggies or wagons... maybe a steamroller for a deffrolla battlewagon
Dynamite blasting crew for tankbustas? Minecart buggies?

The painting/modeling forum could probably help find some appropriate helmets or give tips for conversions.

Thanks all for your comments. I think this idea's worth it.

I was actually thinking, after seeing Avatar, that I'd use the giant bulldozer that they smash the cameras on, as a battlewagon.

One trukk would definitely be a devilfish, as our fluff is that the Tau are trying to keep the Orks bottled up in the mines.

The mine carts idea has already been suggested by several people, so I will definitely be doing it. I'm thinking the mine carts themselves will be warbikers, and the warbiker boss will have the little square train engine, as he is the leader. The engine will be properly souped up to a deafening roar, as per usual.

The overalls idea, I like. I've never thought about that before. Should they have white shirts too?

As for the buggies, I was thinking they'd be the trucks that would have picked up the coal from the mines.

I'm thinking that the Orks themselves aren't mining anything(i don't think that coordination is in them really) but the moon above my IG planet is a mining base, and the orks just started raiding there. And since the miners were the only ones tough enough to stay alive after they'd killed the PDF and civilians, the orks started donning their gear as trophies. The mining helmets are a prized commodity among my orks

EDIT- Also, I was just thinking about my nobz all having big choppas, and giving them all two-handed picks, and then maybe giving one of them a fake beard to tease my dwarf buddy what do y'all think?

Love the idea. Or instead of construction helmets take the ork and mount a little headlamp on the front of the helmet. I think that would be more miner than construction helmets. Then blue for the pants and shirts blue for the boyz and white for nobz because they are the bozzez. Good luck can't wait to see.
