So, I'm writing a short story set it the 40k universe.
The only real problem is that I'm horrid with coming up with names for characters, planets, ships, ect.

The "protaganists" of the story are a Host of the Word Bearers legion.
The antagonists will be the Imperial guard and a company of loyalist Astartes (Probably a break-off from the Ultramarines. I've yet to pick regiments for the IG).

I don't want to use any offical fluff planets or characters, except maybe in reference, but I can't come up with any good names.
Currently, the planet is called ______. That's how bad it is.

Hopefully, someone has some ideas, or an idea where I can get ideas, or and idea of someone who might have ideas, or an idea of someone who might have an idea of where I can get ideas, or... well, so-on and so-forth.

And Moses stepped down from the mountain, and stood before his people. Raising the stone tablet above his head, he spoke, "There is but one commandment from our Lord... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!"

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Look up roman and greek rulers and gods, as well as the mythical creatures of those kinds of societies (wikipedia is good for this). That will give you a good range of "40Kish" sounding names, as they come from the same kind of sources as most of the 40K names.

You can always look up a list of roman empire era names as well, as that will give you some more variety and get you away from the well known names.

I would also just look up a list of baby names (there are loads of sites for them) and just pick names at random from them.

Another good way of naming characters is to take some normal words and translate them into other languages. So you can disguse the name "strong leader" or "good shot" by translating the name into phonetic Korean, for example. The language you can use will vary depending on the background of the people you are naming.

Once I typed in Awesome sounding names into google, I found a website called "seventh sanctum".
It had name generators for everything.

"Praise Be To The Omissiah!"

"Three things make the Empire great: Faith, Steel and Gunpowder!"

Azarath Metrion Zinthos

Expect my posts to have a bazillion edits. I miss out letters, words, sometimes even entire sentences in my points and posts.

Saturn has a lot of desolate moons with obscure names, find a list of them. Plus those not used for planets or ships will all be of Greek/Persian influence like most of astronomical tradition, and suitable for names anyway.

I sometimes think of someone's name and replace a letter or two from it with a different letter so that pronunciation is almost the same just spelled differently like for example 'Chris' spelled as 'Chrys' or something like that.
