Well, got my ass handed to me last weekend by a DE Wych raiding party. Granted, it was the first time I ever faced DE (let alone Wyches).

Any suggestions for next time?

Yea, play ninja Tau. It is the bane of all DE.

Barring that take everything you can in a fish with fletch launchers, and the +4 cover save thing. Also give a unit of DS suits a fail safe detonator and flamers.

Elaborate on ninja tau being the bane of DE?

I was also thinking of drone screens...

yeah ninja tau isnt that big of a problem for DC, especially since you are bringing your forces in piecemeal so the DE player can focus fire on a smalelr number of units on the table.

My only advice to the OP is things which work really well against allot of army like broadsides and lots of high strength weapons are worlthess against DE. we are frail S 5 6 and 7 7 weapons with lots of shots work better than a single S 8 or above shot. also against wyches shoot the transports and they die with only a 6+ save in the open.

Ninja doesn't bring things in peice by peice. Ninja brings everything at the same time. There's a differnce between ninja with a positional relay and path-fish and just putting everything in reserve.

The problem here is that it isn't really hard to kill a commander with a positional relay on turn1....or turn2 at the latest. You know how I'd play against this off the cuff?

Turn1: All DE raiders turbo-boost across the board, up the sides.

Turn2: Raiders finish completely blocking off the table edges. Commander and pathfinder fish eat 10-15 dark lances and 9 disintegrators (saved for preferential use against pathfinders.

Turn3+: Your reserves make their rolls, and since you're outflanking and the board edges are completely blocked off, the rest of your army is automatically destroyed. Anything *not* outflanking comes in piecemeal and eats dark lances and disintegrators.

Ninja Tau really *are* a joke. =p

And if I didn't want to block the table edges, the same turbo-boost up the center will end up in a dead commander and pathfinder fish on turn2, and your reserves coming in piecemeal anyway. I can't envision a game where Ninja Tau actually work here, which is why I'm asking for elaboration.

I wasn't saying that ninja is great vs DE, just that his concept of what ninja IS seemed off

Anywho, I haven't played that much DE so I can't really help too much, except to say that ninja tau almost always has a CHANCE to work, it just depends on what you are willing to sacrifice and who your playing as to how good that chance is. ninja is usually only good against slower armies who are more static and shooty anyways. Saying it's a joke though... that's a little bit harsh. "it's a joke vs fast armies" maybe but against IG or other static/slow armies it can be a viable option.

Vs dark eldar? It all hinges on keeping the commander alive. If you could manage that then it may be a somewhat decent list. That would depend on terrain and other things though, along with maybe having to deploy more than just the commander first turn. all in all though probably not a very viable anti DE list.

First off, it all depends on whether you get 1st turn or not. If they get first turn what happens? Turbo Boost! If they get secong turn what happens? If there's not enough terrain, reserves. If there is, Turbo Boost!

You know they are comming for you and you even know how fast. No one playing Wyches will move less then 20" with most of the army. In theory, if you know you opponent you should be able to deal. You issue is that they might just be too fast. You've got either 1 or 2 turns of shooting and you need to make it count. Lots of S6 or S7 is enough to get through the Raiders and lots of shots are needed to bypass the 4+ turbo-cover.

I'm not all that familiar with Tau but aren't there S6 multi-shot rocket pods which don't need line of sight? Also, aren't stealth suits S6 with lots of shots. Even S5 with the volume that stealth suits put out will do it.

The good news is with Tau you'll likely know if your plan worked by turn 3. If it hasn't your tabled and you can try again with a new list. There's no shame in losing a few times to a one-trick pony as long as you eventually figure out a good angle. Once you have that they'll never win again.

Both the "multi-shot rocket pods" (Smart Missle System) and the stealth suit weapons (burst cannons) are S5, not S6.

I've been thinking of trying a "phalanx" configuration next time (drone screens. lots of them.)

Especially since the player likes to pull cheese like spreading out his wyches to engage and tie up multiple units.
