I am interested in starting my second army... I would like to try a Black Templars army but I figured I would ask opinions first and a few questions.

1) Do you need to buy a Black Templars conversion kit for basically all your models?

2) Can Black Templars play along side psykers that do not have any psychic abilities? For example an Inquisitor type unit that is only in the army list to run Grey Knights for a Demon Hunters army.

3) How do they fair in actual games and tournaments? (1-10)

Any opinion is appreciated! Thanks guys!

1) Not entirely necessary. Besides, you can't even make 10 tabard marines with the upgrade kit. I think the iconography is cool though, so I run with a lot of robed guys.

2) YES! They may play alongside any model as long as it does not have psychic powers. (An Inquisitor w/ a Psychic hood is totally okay). GKs are fine too, they're the exception.

3) Apparently pretty well, though I'm not particularly good with them and I don't play at tourneys, so I'm not entirely sure about this point.

Yeah! Who needs balanced rules when everyone can take giant stompy robots! Balanced rules are just for TFG WAAC players, and everyone hates them.

Awesome reply! So maybe just kitting out some of the marines with tabards and a shoulder pad on all of them would be a solid idea. I knew about the GKs but was iffy about the Inquisitor. Good news indeed! Thanks for the info.

1) The Black Templars conversion kit looks great, and I'd suggest using it for all of your Characters and Elites, just to ensure that the BT "look and feel" is there.

2) Black Templars can certainly work alongside non-Psyker Inquisitors and similar Imperial Agents! Tho I'd avoid things like allied Librarians and such...

3) They're not bad, but a bit old, rules-wise. They look awesome, IMO, which is the best reason to field them.

I play Black Templars and i find that they are a really fun army to use. Their bits from the chapter upgrade kit are pretty sick. As far as the rules go, the codex says that they can only go with Grey Knight SM though in the old Witch Hunters codex there a page that says they can be taken as allies, still not 100% on this but any way. One suggestion that i have is that you get an assault squad and throw a jump pack on a chaplain and stick him with the assault squad. He gives them the ability to re-roll the "to hit" in the assault phase (if i got this wrong, someone please let me know, this is just my interpretation of it) and if you team that up with an EC that has the Accept any Challenge, No Matter the Odds vow, they can become very nasty. Also another rule that you want to look out for is the righteous zeal rule, it can be a bit of a pain. Also its pretty cool to have a squad consist of 10 marines and 10 scouts . My only complaint about them is the fact that they dont have a wide selection of troops to take IMO but other than that i love this chapter.

1) Your call.
2) The answer above is correct. See the FAQ as well.
3) It depends on your build. Top level is 2 LRC w/ Assault Terms 3:2 Claws and Furious Charge, EC AAC, Marshal, and as many minLas/plas squads in Rhinos as will fit.
